Ya never really "know" someone until ya live with 'em. Roomies are no longer an option for me.

$700 for a one bedroom w/o utilities really is about the average price range, at least where I live. As far as buying a house for $100k house for $460 a month, well good luck with that. I know that's what they say the payments will be but 95% of the time is not the case. That's only if you have a perfect credit score, a high paying job and a huge down payment. Believe me, I have good credit but it's not perfect. I bought my house for $170k and my payments w/ home owners are $1435 a month. I would just look around a little more and wait until after you finished school and settled into your new carear before taking on the financial burdeon of owning a home.

Yeah. I know exactly what you mean. The girl and I were best friends. My old roommate moved out and rather than pay the extra fees for a single room at college I asked if she wanted to move in. Big mistake. Now we arent friends anymore. I have honestly heard more roommate horror stories than happy endings.

Thanks all. I guess I just may have to get an apartment. Although I dont like the idea that in some places around the college you have a slim chance at getting your security deposit back..

I've had shitty roommates. I have loads of horror stories about them but at the end of the day, they help with the money situation.

Sometimes its better if you live with strangers. I've done that and they turned out to be some of my "better" roomies.

                  go live in the projects

(at least around here, it's based on what you make at your job every month, last I seen an ad for them on the bus, it was ~$230, assuming $1.5k from your job)

in any cas be glad you don't live in LA

                  rent there is like $1k

ps personally i'd rent a few times in my life then buy, so you can make judgmental and informed decisions on where to live

with all the money i make at my job i'd end up getting pwnt on that much rent

Man I guess I'm well off. rent here only costs me about $550 with utilities and 3 room mates. I'm pretty laid back so I tend to get along with my room mates, except for the ones who constantly feel the need to mess with my stuff. My laundry Detergent, razor, and my CD's and movies, all that stuff is not just there for you to use whenever you please or lend to your friends! You're supposed to at least ask. Just one of my pet peeves.

Anyway, what I've learned from having many different room mates is, don't ever room with a friend unless you're really sure that you won't want to kill each other after a year of close contact.

Rent here for a cheap and I mean cheap apartment is about $500 a month. A decent apartment is over a grand. But buying a house is such a commitment and think about the morgage (sp) my parents had to wait about 20 some years to pay off their own house.

Apartments are only $275-$550 around here and alot of them are all inclusive (utils, cable, phone and internet plus washer/dryer). Houses are good but you have to consider if they're efficient. If you get an old house, your electricity bill is gonna skyrocket plus it will require alot of maintenence.

Man to have an apartment that sheep! I pay $950...now that is for an lux apartment but not as lux as some of the others here in Dallas. I've seen some go for as much as $2000, for an apartment! Just rmember the mortgage may be cheep but when you own you have to fix every thing on your own. Toilet gets clogged-you fix, sink leaks-you fix, pest problem-all you! You need to evaluate your financials then see what is in your price range. I know you don't want to have a roommate but hey-we have all been there. Good Luck!
