It isn't so much the actor that's putting me off (he was convincingly menacing as Rorschach in "Watchmen," so I don't have a problem with him).
What I *don't* like is that they have apparently changed the story.
If you watch the trailer real closely, you'll see that when they chase him and burn him, he is pleading his innocence, and saying "What do you think I've done?"
This paints this version of Freddy Kruegar as someone who is possibly wrongly accused and ends up seeking vengeance.
By contrast, the original Freddy was evil to the core. He delighted in his own sickness. In the "Nightmare" TV series, when they burn him alive, Robert Englund cackled and laughed as he burned, telling them all that he would be back and no one would be safe. He never denied doing the things they blamed him for.
So, despite the reboot and all, I feel this Freddy doesn't come off as evil.
Also, he looks horrible.
