Hi,
What two songs would you want to make mashups of, those that mainly sound similar in terms of one or more musical connotations, be it part of one song's riff, a lyric from another, a distinctive guitar line, etc.? One famous mashup of note, though never legitimately released, is "A Stroke of Genius" which combines the lyrics from Christina Aguilera's 1999 hit "Genie in a Bottle" with the guitar track from the Strokes' "Hard to Explain."
My hot sheet:
*"Swearin' to Shaft" - a mashup of Frankie Valli's 1975 hit "Swearin' to God" and Isaac Hayes' 1971 hit "Theme from Shaft." Both songs have that funky disco wah-wah guitar sound as well as a 4/4 timed beat.
*"Stranger in Dust" - a mashup of Supertramp's 1979 hit "Goodbye Stranger" and Siouxsie & the Banshees' 1985 hit "Cities in Dust," for both songs have a distinct 4/4 timed beat as well as some Middle Eastern musical influences.
*"My Imperial Woman" - a mashup of the lyrics from the Lew Stone/Al Bowlly/Monsigneur Band version of famous crooner Bing Crosby's 1932 song "My Woman" with the melody of John Williams' "Imperial March (Darth Vader's Theme)" from the soundtrack of the 1980 Star Wars film, The Empire Strikes Back." Perhaps this mashup would've been released before Jyoti Mishra (White Town) toyed with that Bing Crosby tune...
What are your mashups?
