It's been almost 40 years since this festival was born. Does anyone want to talk about the great bands that have played at Woodstock, or just talk about the memories they have of it?

Crosby, Stills, and Nash had their first live performance there.. they had only played together a few times before then and it was still flawless.. and of course Jimi Hendrix, but that one goes without saying 8)

note: i wasn't there, im only 27.. but the movie lets you see it all.. great film btw

Sony just released a few complete performances from Woodstock, Santana, Sly and the Family Stone and Jefferson Airplane. I got the Jefferson Airplane one off I-tunes, it has an incredible extended version of Wooden Ships.

MCA put out two versions of Jimi Hendrix's set on cd, a one cd highlights version and a two cd complete performance one, I have the two disc version.

Highlights from the Who's performance are included in their The Kids Are Alright documentary and the soundtrack album, I've got The Kids Are Alright on DVD and the soundtrack on vinyl. Halfway through their set Abbie Hoffman got on stage and tried to take the mic to make a protest/ rant but Pete Townshend shoved him off the stage. There is audio of this happening and Abbie wrote about it in two of his books but so far visual footage of it happening hasn't surfaced.

I've got Patricia Kennealy's autobiography Strange Days and she has a really good chapter about how she covered the festival when she was a journalist for Jazz & Pop magazine.

I've also got a one disc various artists highlights from the festival cd.

I don't own any dvd or vhs pressings of the Woodstock film yet but I watch it whenever it's aired on tv. Eventually I'll probably get one of the new expanded dvd reissues when I see it at a used store.

another interesting note: The band was Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. Neil Young played part of the set with them at Woodstock but refused to be filmed.

It wouldn't be a Woodstock thread without Woodstock, himself. :)
