Before becoming one man and a constantly rotating line up, the Smashing Pumpkins were able to pull out, it can be said, mega selling records. Now, listen to Billy Corgan Rap.

artists who used to be in bands, then decided their ego was larger than the band itself, and their ideas were better, are the main candidates for branching out.
Take Roger Taylor and Brian May of Queen. In the mid 1980's they put out some 'side projects' like Bluesbreaker and The Cross and even a fan like me thinks they're awful. Even Freddy Mercury's solo works were questionable because there was a lack of quality control- the other three band members not there to pass judgement. But out of the three, he had the most solo success. I thought the solo works were limp.

DeeDee Ramone's rap career as DeeDee King was embarrising and even apologized for it in the Ramones' End of the Century documentary but despite that, DeeDee was occasionaly good at writing some funny rap lyircs.
