Here we have a tv game show called Rockwiz and each contestant is asked what was the first album they bought, with their own money? This, as opposed to, your great aunt Mavis buying you the best of the Bee Gees for Xmas one year because she thought all the youngsters liked them.

So I thought I'd ask other people this same question. And how old you were. It's important. It's rare for someone to still enjoy the same music they did at age 10.

For me it was a-ha's 'Scoundrel Days' on LP when I was 11. Remember those big black vinyl things? I still have that album and I still love their murder rock song 'I've Been Losing You' from it. Laugh if you must.

do you require a specific format? I mean...are you talking about vinyl only? ....or can it be 8-track, cassette, etc?

it doesn't have to be format specific, more of a question of what music you chose to buy, with your own cash.

Some people's 'album' they first bought would be a cassette or a cd, not vinyl.

I bought three at once actually at a Library Sale

Tears for Fears - Seeds of Love. Umm...I listened to it, and not really my style. Not then, not now.

Kiss- Smashes, Thrashes, and Hits- I was a fan of the spectacle of KISS, and then I discovered other Rock.

Rush-Chronicles - Without this sale, I wouldn't have discovered my favorite band.
                  Oh yeah?

I have that Tears for Fears single. I was given it for Xmas by a friend when I was 13. It's a bit Beatle-esque.
BTW I love the Van Damme bunny suit photo.

Photoshop at work. It seems there are sections of the internet devoted to making fun of Van Damme.

I'm not too proud of the first album I bought with "my own money". Let me say that I got a lot of great music before buying this by having my parents buy me tons of Beatles, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and CCR. But the first time I was at a store solo, and bought a CD with my own money, it was Dookie by Green Day
