I think there's a growing number of writers onthe site who get extremely stingey (sp?) with the amount of thumbs up they give. It's a valid hypothesis. She you're waiting on an article you put good time in you get mad when I don't see it approved as fast as you thought. When it does get approved you choose not give your competing with for daily supremacy. I consider myself not one of these guys. Sure, I get mad the longer I have to wait but I tend to give a thumbs up to all 5 articles that make it to the site every Monday Wednesday and Friday. It really has to be terrible for me to give it a thumbs down. There also might be too many articles that come out so people get tired of seeing a set of new ones out every 2 days. So they just pass the chance to read and vote. I don't know. I'm drunk right now but that's my .02

I also don't like giving people thumbs down. Everyone is proud of there own articles or else they wouldn't put it out there for the world to see. I usually give most things a thumbs up even if I don't make a comment on them, like I said I don't like giving a thumbs down if I don't like it I just leave it alone and don't give it any thumbs at up weather it be up or down.

Wow, my last post was awful hahaha

I've been a reader of this site for a very long time (since 2006). I didn't officially become a member until late last year when I decided to start writing. I write for myself. I know most of what I write is very personal, but I always felt like I should put down my memories into words. Take my "The Average Cosgrove Weekend" article. I'm 100% sure there is no one out there who had the same weekend as me, but I still wrote it. I feel very very proud of that one. It's become sort of biblical to my family and my friend's family (the one mentioned in the article). My mother and my friend's mother burst out in tears because they missed the days of old. That meant a lot to me. No other reader on this site would respond to that article the way they did, and that's very special to me.

I don't write for the score, but it's nice to see people appreciate your work. Now the article I was referring to when I started this thread was my "A Day at the Races" one. I know it's very long and somewhat personal, but I thought it was very original and very creative. I hadn't seen something like that before. It was a beast to write, but very fun, as well. It just irks me to look at the score and think there are only 9 people who enjoyed reading it (I'm the 10th, of course) and felt obliged to award me for my hard work. We all know how many users are on this site, we saw them show up for vkimo's article. True, most of the users are just message board guys, but there are at least a good 80 or so that frequent the article area.

Maybe we are just in a slump on this site, but I feel my points on my previous post are very logical. To reiterate: Hypothetically, I'm writing this badass article that I just know people are going to love. I send it in for approval and just know that it'll get approved in a jiffy. The days go by and I'm getting very upset that I'm not seeing it on the front page (I've really been there before), so I start not giving any thumbs at all for the articles that are "taking the place of my article". I'm rebelling. Finally, my article pops up and I choose not to vote on my competition (the articles I'm running against for daily supremacy). My article is doing very poorly and I lose it. I restrict my thumb giving for the next few weeks because I'm upset at my fellow RetroJunkers. Back to reality, as I stated before, I tend to give out thumbs up better than the Soup Nazis gives out soup. I love reading about other's memories and I fully acknowledge them. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but any retro memory is a good memory.
