I think my cat might have fleas or something. He's got a couple red spots on his belly that are licked clean of hair. Anyone know what this might be?

isn't that just where his nipples are? it's hard to tell from the picture where exactly they're positioned. but it looks like his are a bit irritated. don't think they're fleas though.

First of all, go see a vet. Ususally this is a sign of an allergy, for which the vet will prescrive cortisone for the inflammation. If you want to check for fleas, feel around in your cats fur for anything that feels like sand...if you find any, place it on a wet paper towel. If it turns into a little blod spot, it's flea poop, hence fleas. Again, your vet would be the best resource for dealing with this. Take care of your kitty!

Yeah, you know, if I had money I would take him to the vet. All I have is $40 and that won't even get me in the door.

you might want to try a flea shampoo then, and treat it yourself, if you do infact believe he has fleas.

You might try going to Petsmart and talk to a groomer. They may have a better idea. Just a suggestion.

I dunno... the one bald spot looks like it has a kind of slight scratch on it. The other bigger spot has a bit of a lump the size of an eraser head and looks like its oozing a little or something.

By a flea comb and rub it through his fur then look at it afterward's if you see any fleas on it then you know its flea's or it might be ticks. Some ticks can get under the skin of animals.

I like your cat, Mystie! Boy, does he look pissed!

BTW, your cat may either have fleas or ticks...or that bald spot could be where his nipple lies. If it's the former, you might want to see a vet about that.

oozing = infection. take him to the vet now. if you can't afford to take your cat to the vet you shouldn't own one.

You're right. I should have given my cat up when I lost my job. How stupid of me.

The one spot is mainly a couple red flecks and the other has a reddened spot the size of an eraser head that's a little goopy. Probably from being licked open. Here's a bigger image...

My mom will probably spot me the money for the vet but then it's either going to mean.

A- I'll be broke for the next 2 months

                            or

B- I won't be getting a birthday present this month. Which isn't that bad as my birthdays are usually a huge joke, anyway.

Forgive me for not opening the link, Mystie....I'll leave that to the pros, as I think neither one of us would benefit from me seeing oozing cat sores. :|

Butt burglar..that hurts. hey, how bout you go to the vet and make an arrangement for payment. Or, you can just wait for your cat to die. Or, you can continue to ask for help on an 80's forum, which would certainly be the course of action I would take if I were a complete and utter waste of life.

Hey, jack off, I don't think you have enough posts in this forum to start making enemies. First off, she was asking advice from people she considers friends. You probably don't know what that's like, because from the few posts you have added, you probably don't have any friends to ask advice from.
Everyone shared their advice in a caring matter and the advice was considered. It seems like the cat is being taken care of, so why don't you just keep your junior high comments to yourself.
Don't try to debate me or throw out some jackassy comment belittling me, it will just show your maturity. Besides, I won't be commenting after this.

Right on Bandit! I second that. If Mystie really didn't care about her kitty she wouldn't even bother to ask anyone in the first place. And just so you know, you never know who hangs out on these message boards. There may be a vet on here who could tell her exactly what was wrong....by the way Mystie I emailed the link you sent with the close up and my vet thinks it is scabies or ring worm. Can't really say for sure with out seeing up close. Hope that helps! :)
