Who remembers the Paul Simon hit "You Can Call Me Al" released in 1986?

It didn't chart well initially, but did so on re-issue in 1987. The music video that most people know that is associated with the single featured Chevy Chase of Saturday Night Live, who lip-synched Simon's vocals (Simon himself also appeared in the video). In fact, Lorne Michaels had a hand in coming up with the concept of the video. Simon plays a pennywhistle (actually played by Morris Goldberg on the recording) in it during the break.

Do you think that Carrie Fisher (Simon's wife from 1983-93) could have covered the song, as "You Can Call Me Caz"?

Classic song from a classic album. The live version in Africa is incredible. However you're gonna have to fill me in on that "You Can Call Me Caz" joke. Wooziewhat now?

Excellent song, one of my all time favorites from 1986. I've always associated Paul Simon's "You Can Call Me Al" with his Graceland album. I didn't know about the re-release the following year. Were there changes in the song or are both cuts the same?

The re-released single from March 1987 still used the original version of the song, but got more airplay (peaking at #23); this was because the original single issue from October 1986 didn't fare well on the charts, peaking at #44.

"Caz" and "Carrie" are both nicknames for Caroline.
