Funky Guy 5 years 8 months ago Posts: 2638 Account Disabled	It's a pathetic shadow of it's 80's heyday. Interest in rap is waining but the record companies still shove it down people's throats. I hardly see any wigger types around anymore. Then they wonder why album sales are so low. My two big problems are how much it relies on samples rather than original music, and often the samples aren't even well used. Take Short Distance by Obie Trice. It has a five second loop from Yes' Heart of the Sunrise going over and over again, with an out of time beat and rap over top. The original piece by Yes has a really long bass led instrumental break that would have leant itself well to rhyming over. My other problem is most of the time I can't relate to it, it often describes lower class or higher class things that I've ever known in my own life. And there's a lot of product placements in rap lyrics, it's like advertisments from FHM magazine set to a beat or something.

Run DMC were amusing, Public Enemy were intelligent. NWA were allright. That's it. The rest is a stereotype of what record companies expect rappers to be- black, violent and opinionated.

Shazbot 5 years 8 months ago Posts: 2882	The vast majority of rap that has come out recently does suck hard, just listen to Lil Wayne for proof. Some songs from Ice Cube, NWA, Snoop, Jay-Z, Beastie Boys and a few others are pretty enjoyable.
