In the new year I have decided to enter the trading circuit so I can broaden my tape collection, I have a nice small collection to start out with and I just wanted to know if this is the correct way to make copies of tapes.

My method: You take two VCRs hook them both up to the tv, put the Master copy into the one going directly into the Tv and then put the blank tape into the other one. Press play on the VCR that has the Master copy inside and press record on the other VCR and there you go.

If my method is wrong, please post telling me how to properly do it.

Also is there a possibility of while copying the tapes, the master copy itself can get ruined? I'm just asking because these really aren't my tapes and I can get in trouble if I ruin them. My sister told me that but she probably said that to talk me out of doing this :p

    Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that's right. When I was a kid, my father used to copy tapes all the time. That aside, the "master tape" shouldn't get messed up if you do that, unless you're using a bad VCR that may eat up the tape or something.

They can't get ruined more than the normal wear and tear of playing them. Just make sure you break off the little tab on the long-label side to prevent from accidently recording over the master.

            That's how I make copies.

To put clips on the PC, buy a video-capture card, hook a VCR up, and simply record. You can even watch TV. I just got one for Christmas, and have been putting old commercials on like crazy.

I really want to transfer my tapes onto DVD. Hopefully I'll get one of those DVD/VCR combos with a recorder.

Actually, there is a converter wire that will let you plug in a VCR output cable and plug it into your computer without the need for any special tuners.

Look it up on google, they usually run about $20-$50, and come with all the software you need. I've got one, and it works great. I've loaned it out right now though, and I can't remember what brandname it is, but it works very well.
