In all cerealness though I have 7, and after seeing 8 I'm trying to keep this laptop running as long as possible. I recently purchased an old Windows game I loved as a kid but was bummed to find out it's not compatible with 7! That's doesn't make sense to me.
It makes total sense when you understand the infrastructure of Windows. Windows 95/98 at its core is MS DOS based. Windows 2000 and up are NT based. Windows will try to emulate (trick) older programs to work on the NT kernel, but they are two different worlds. If you right click/properties on the EXE of the program, you will see "compatibility". A lot of programs work okay doing this, but many games don't because they do complex things like directly access the hardware on the computer. The enhanced security of NT and changes in IRQs makes this impossible. The older programs just can't communicate with Windows 8 and the hardware like they need to. You can sometimes get them to work, but you won't have sound or graphic acceleration. You're better off getting an old computer with Windows 98 just for the old games.
