Oh, let's see how many people I can get to disagree with me on these:
THE DOORS:
Never understood what people found so appealing about The Doors. I can't connect to most of their music. They have a few okay songs, but they're just not the end-all be-all of music that some people seem to think they are. I just don't get it.
U2:
I used to like U2, back in 1985. Before they became pretentious twits who think that everything they produce is musical genius. I got news for you, it isn't. Retire, already, and go the hell away.
NIRVANA:
I liked them when they first appeared. But, over the years, I've been subjected to hearing how fantastic they are...and it's really worn on me. "Nevermind" was great when it was released just because it was different and had a lot of really catchy material. That does not make it the greatest album in history. Nor, does that make Nirvana the greatest band of all time. Their influence on music wasn't good either, as they made it "uncool" to be really good with guitar playing (a trend that took over a decade to reverse). I like some of their music, but that's as far as I'll take it.
AC/DC:
I like a lot of their music. Really, I do. I'm a fan, even. But, they are seriously over-hyped as being this great band, when most of their riffs are pretty simple, musically. It's a simple formula that works for them, and I won't fault them for being charismatic enough to make a long career out of it. But, seriously, they are not the greatest thing ever...and I'd rather listen to musicians with talent most of the time. I save my AC/DC for days when I just want to do a lot of mindless listening.
METALLICA:
Their early music was fantastic. I was into them all the way back in 1985, when some of my friends who followed underground metal introduced them to me. They stayed good for a couple of years, until their self-titled black album. That was the beginning of the end. And they've been on a downward spiral ever since. I only mention them because there are people who still think they are good...and they haven't been good in about 20 years (I think "...And Justice For All" was their last great album). They have lost everything that made them great...and even their last album (Death Magnetic) came off as a bunch of posers trying to sound like Metallica. They should have retired after 1991.
That's all for now. But, here's one special mention:
PINK FLOYD:
For the most part, I like Pink Floyd. Specifically, though, I think "The Wall" is the most overrated album of all time. There are some decent tracks on there, and sometimes I even enjoy listening to the whole thing. But, really, the number of people who think it is the *only* Pink Floyd album worth listening to really annoy the crap out of me. It isn't their best work. And I can't seem to convince them that they should listen to some of their other work...because they won't. Which tells me that these so-called "Pink Floyd Fans" really aren't fans at all, or they'd at least listen to *anything* else the band has done.
