Not that crappy movie with the Rock, but the original played by Joe Don Baker. This movie was based on a true story of man that tried to end the corruption in their county in Tennessee. One thing that made this movie so great was how true to life the actors were. They were not these mainstream trendy Hollywood actors, but ones you could relate to real life.
The ending is really sad when their car gets ambushed on a beautiful Sunday afternoon drive and his wife gets shot in the back of the head. If you have never seen this movie watch it, it is really good for it's time.
They made three parts to this movie and there was even a TV show in 1981 that never took off. The real Buford Pusser was actually going to play himself in the second movie, but was killed in a car wreak after signing the papers. Some believe he was murdered.
On a side not a few of the actors/actress lives ended tragically as well.
Elizabeth Hartman (wife in the movie) (suicide 1987)
Brenda Benet (girl he payed off to help him in the movie)(suicide 1982)
Leif Garrett (son in the movie) (still alive, but another child actor whose life was ruined by drugs)
