Got some more vinyl on Sunday!!

    -Genesis--Duke
    -Genesis--Abacab
    -Queen--A Night At The Opera
    -Queen--News Of The World
    -Christopher Cross--Debut
    -Beethoven Sonata Collection (3LPs)

    Found these in my attic:
    -Ronco Presents Sound Explosion
-Wings--Wings At The Speed Of Sound

I'll probably be on here again tomorrow too because I might be going to a couple used record shops with my mom because she wants to look at some vinyl too. It's kind of our hobby together even though I've spent more money on it so far but that doesn't matter because we're having so much fun with it.

I have a pretty big record collection. My oldest record is a 1960 Glenn Miller compliation record. I also have stuff like Genesis, Aerosmith and ACDC.

Growing up, my parents had a pretty decent record collection. Both LP's and 45's. Most of the music was Lionel Richie, The Carpenters, Whitney Houston, Men At Work, Toto, etc. Lots of 70's and 80's music. My parents still have all their records to this day.

Are CD's better than records? That's an interesting question. I guess it depends on your generation and how nostalgic you are. For sharpness and clarity, CD's are the way to go. No hissing and popping, no annoying skipping (most of the time) and you don't have to worry about getting a new needle for the record player when it gets worn out (believe me, I had to do it!).

However, personally, I like both. I don't mind the hissing and popping that comes with records. In fact, I welcome it. It gives you that back-in-the-day feeling. The smell of the vinyl and even the very act of putting the needle to the record is great fun for turning back the time; especially for those like me who grew up with this stuff.

I do collect CD's and lots of them. I've tried to get many of my favorite songs that I grew up with on record, on a CD just so I can hear the clarity. I'm putting together quite a collection of 80's music right now.
"Make a move across the rubicon......future's knocking at your door......take your time and choose the road you want......opportunity is yours."

            - From the 1983 song "Rubicon" by Journey

I just got my first record player last month. I have the original cast recording of Hair, Simon & Garfunkle's Greatest Hits, and soon, the soundtrack to Xanadu!

Any sound technician or music enthusiast would have to disagree with you there, and I'm one of them. See it's all about compression rates and how many steps it takes to actually get to audio. CDs have a higher compression rate than Vinyl (the difference is negligible I agree but still) therefore by default have lower quality. Also the transition is killing in terms of quality: CDs go from digital to analogue while vinyl has no steps in between. It is a direct medium so to speak.

The only real downside to vinyl is indeed that it is highly susceptible to dust and other little things, but those downsides can easily be circumvented by proper maintenance. CDs also tend to get scratched and are also VERY susceptible to moist from the human hand. There's nothing you can do about that.

Try and compare a new record played on a new deck to the same record in cd format played on the same sound system. The difference in quality is ridiculous believe me.

Sorry for the wall of text though...

I collect records. I'm currently low on funds, so I can only afford stuff I find cheap. My last purchases were Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas? and D.O.A.'s Bloodied but Unbowed.

I just started buying records, but it's been fun so far. Here's what I've got:

...and a single signed by Jenny Lewis. Some RetroJunk fans might remember her child actress days in movies such as "The Wizard" and "Troop Beverly Hills." Her music is actually pretty good.

                        "Pizza dude's got thirty seconds..."

I was recently home for Christmas and when I was in the attic of the house I found two AC/DC Records that I decided to bring back with me. They were Back In Black and For Those About To Rock. I don't have a record player or have even been interested in collecting records before but I thought they would be nifty to have around.

Meh, I inherited my dad's collection from when he was younger. Lots of Cat Stevens and Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, among others.

                                          Bought another one yesterday:

Tears For Fears--Songs From The Big Chair

I like this album because TFF is awesome and it has three of my favorite 80's songs on it: Shout, Everybody Wants To Rule The World, and Head Over Heels. Right now I'm hot on the trail for Love Gun by Kiss, The Nightfly by Donald Fagan, and the Heavy Metal Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. Wish me luck.
