The unfairly maligned Sci-fi horror thriller definitely gets more recongization over the years with it's cult following. This unusual installment of the "Halloween" series was suppose to be a new Beginning for the franchise according to John Carpenter as he intended to end Michael's story with "Halloween II", he came up with a concept to make the franchise into a big screen horror anthology in the vein of "Tales from the Crypt", "Creepshow", or "Twilight Zone" or even "Night Gallery" of different halloween themed horror movies ever year even around Haddonfield with different killers.

The plan went wrong though when he didn't tell audiences or marketed this concept, it bombed when it came out in theaters with fans demanding Michael back. Thus the anthology concept ended and Michael returned in 1988. I thought this was a well done Sci-fi horror thriller with Lovecraft overtones and a nice twist in the end!
