Yeah I had the first Gen too! I had:

      California Games
      Blue Lightning (F-18 jet game)
      Warbirds (WW1 flight sim)
      Gauntlet
      Hard Drivin'

The thing I didn't about Gauntlet was that it was one of the games that it wanted you to play with the Lynx held vertically. I always wanted Rampage. For the time it had great graphics and sound, beat the hell out of Game Boy IMO.

It had much better graphics than the gameboy but thats the only thing it had going for it, all the games were either absolutely crap or completely impossible, or both.

My cousin had one, I only played California Games on it, since thats the only game he had at the time. His brother had the game gear.

i currently have and usea generation 1 lynx.
              games owned
              A.P.B
              STEEL TALONS
              RYGAR
              HYDRA
              NINJA GAIDEN 3
              BLOCK OUT 3D
              ROADBLASTERS

i did not have it at the time of introduction, back then i was constantly teased by the mailers atari would send, i bougth mine in 98 for the measly price of $7 at a pawn shop. been using it ever since

the lynx was ahead of its time. there where better handhelds like the NEC turbo express but who had $300 to spend on a handheld. the graphics and game play on the lynx are superior to all similarly priced handhelds untill the introduction of the GBA , that gave the lynx a full decade of technological mastery albeit not comercial succes. it was the most succesfull atari home system only toped by the 2600

Well thanks for showing up and being negative. Did you have one? The graphics and sound yes did kill Gameboy. And while the cycle of games that came out were indeed limited, there were some great games. The ones I listed were great, and add 4 player to it and they were classic. 4 player Warbirds was one of the greatest multi-player action I have had until Quake/Goldeneye/Halo.

Sorry i didn't mean it to sound like that :(

I didnt own a lynx at the time but i own one now and i know what atari are like. Dont get me wrong there is something that i love about atari but it has to be said that they made a lot of extremely hard games.

I remember seeing one at school when it first came out. Thought it was much cooler than the Gameboy. Just couldn't convince my parents into buying it though.

I lent my Lynx to my cousin who had to have surgery. He must have dropped it or something because when I got it back the jack for AC adaptor was missing. So after that, I had to use AA batteries only. At 6 batteries at a time, plus not very great life, it got expensive.

The inside of the port for the ac adapter has fallen inside the one i have so i had to use batteries with it, and with 6 duracell i only get half an hour at the most then the batteries are tottally dead.

the main culprit for the low battery life is the primitive backligth. those electronically inclinde may install a modern of the shelf backligth. the charger port pin was also infamous for breaking , i have moded mine with a charger port from an NES purchased at radioshack for 3 dollars. i used the same mod on my atari 7800. another good mod is to make a battery pack. by a "d" battery holder at RS and attach a cable. the big "d" batteries will last a hell of a lot longer

my dad has one, and i think it still runs! you just have to reef really hard on the control panel, and use batteries that won't run out in 15 minutes.
here's all the games that i can think of that he's got:
                          -Klax
-Slimeworld (the best one he's got)
                          -Gauntlet
                          -California Games
                          -Shanghai (mahjong)
                          -Road Blasters
                          -chess... yawn
                          -warbirds
                          -s.t.u.n. runner
                          -tournament cyberball (robot football)
                          -paperboy
                          -blockout
                          -checkered flag
                          -lynx casino (very dumb)
and some others...and no, sorry to you major fans out there, but they're NOT FOR SALE! :P
