Back in the days of going to the roller rink for the arcade and not for the skating, I found a really cool game I used to always enjoy playing. I'd blow what money I had been able to save over the few weeks beforehand on this game, but never really captured its mechanics. Well, in time the game was replaced by newer, flashier games and its memory faded into the background.

For the life of me, I can't figure out this 80's/90's era arcade game's name.

It was the standard side scroller with a space theme. Your ship could pick up or free upgrades from enemies or enclosed spaces you blasted away. The great thing about them is that they'd add on to your ship. I remember one piece being a turret with a set of legs.

You could rearrange the pieces by letting them go and linking back up with them in a different area of your ship. So it made for the tunnel crawling to be pretty interesting.

The end boss was a scorpion looking creature that attacked from the right hand side of the screen.

Do any of you arcade buffs remember the name to the game?

PS. It's finals week so I'm hopped up on caffine pills. Sorry if it isn't the clearest discription.

The letting powerups go part sounds like R Type or Last Resort.

Holy cow, wow! It was R Type. I remember the goofy drawings they had on the side of the system now. Thank you!

          Oh yes, that's definitely R-Type.
