The special effects are laughable, there's plot holes all over the place, stupid sight gags, hand rays, teleporting villains, the Saranwrap "S", the irreversible powers-take-away machine that was of course reversible, the forgetful kiss at the end...good lord. Why the hell is this film so beloved?

killface 6 years 7 days ago Posts: 507	While I agree, I still think it was the best of all four movies. That's sad. They all sucked. At least it had a fight scene, I mean for fuck sake, Superman never seems to fight anyone! EDIT: Best of all five... SR was SHITE!

Jason43 6 years 7 days ago Posts: 1553 Account Disabled	The Richard Donner cut doesn't count x 4. I don't think II is the best out of them at all. The first is a far better film in every aspect, despite the lack of a fight scene. I'd even say Returns is a better movie overall. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the hell out of II, but it's more of a nostalgic enjoyment than an actual appreciation for the film.

"there's plot holes all over the place," The only questions I ever had were, 1) Where did Lois and Clark get the car? (Footage from the remote control car in the 1st movie.) 2) How did Clark not freeze to death when he returns to the fortress in his jacket? "hand rays" Stupid. I agree. "teleporting" Maybe they were just moving real fast. But then again, even in the George Reeves Superman he could split in two. "Saranwrap S" Goofy. But effective. "take away machine" What's wrong with that? Superman was using his brains, not his brawn. "forgetful kiss" Stupid yes. But so was the Donner Cut when he turned back time again mixed with obvious modern day footage of NY.

It probably has to do with the fact Reeve played a better Superman than Routh. CGI was cool in movies like T2 and the first Matrix movie. Now directors get carried away with it. It's the reason I don't like the Star Wars prequels. That and the bad acting.
