I don't know if it was the same in the US, but I remember back in the early 90s seeing the Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers and Tiny Toon Adventures one-hour debut specials on at some time in the evening, like 6 or 7 PM. I don't remember what days they were on... probably Saturdays. They were shown on free-to-air networks (either 7, 9, or 10 if you're an Australian and know what I'm talking about).
That kind of programming wouldn't happen these days, even for the premiere episode of a new hit cartoon. I was thinking that maybe cartoons were bigger business in those days, but that's probably just because I was a kid then so cartoons and toys were really all I cared about. And cartoons seem to be as big as ever these days.
I guess it was a simpler time back then.
Can anyone remember any cartoon specials on in prime-time in recent years? Not including kids' cable channels of course.
