I just have to mention four cartoons, which I really liked, but never were that well-known.
1: "The journey to the centre of the earth" (or something like that). It was about a young boy, Corey Feldoe, who was traveling around the world on a ship and ended up in a lot of adventures.
2: "Saban's Oliver Twist". I didn't like how they always mixed humans with humanoid animals (cartoons should stick to either humans OR humanesque animals). And of course, it was a very sugarcoated version of Charles Dickens's classic novel. This was made for children, after all. But still, it was really good. I especially liked how they didn't have Fagin as a bad guy, but as a loving foster father to a group of orphans.
3: "Princess Sissi". It was about Princess Elisabeth (nick-named Sissi) of Bavaria, who later became empress of Austria-Hungary, and her adventures. Considering that many of the characters were historical figures, it wasn't all that historically correct. This was another story, that was sugarcoated to be more suitable for children. But they still did a great job with this show.
4: "Iznogoud". It was the animated version of a French comic, which is about Iznogoud, a grandvizir in ancient Bagdad, who does everything to become "caliph instead of the caliph", but always fails.
Hmmm... I just noticed, that all these are historical or fantasy. But then, I love history and fastasy, so that's no wonder, I guess.
