I know how much everyone on this board loves President George W. Bush (LOL J/K!)
I do not think he was a great president, but I wanted to see this movie anyway. Why? I wanted to get a background sense of George W. Bush's life and what made him the blundering man he is today. This movie certainly gave me a lot to think about. I will not spoil the entire movie, but the movie's storyline switches back and forth between George W. Bush's earlier adult life and his (and his Cabinet's) decision to go into Iraq in 2003. Josh Brolin, while he does not look a ton like W, plays him very well in the movie (his voice, mannerisms, etc), and Richard Dreyfuss is fantastic! The movie, surprisingly, made me feel a bit of pity for W. W always wanted the approval and love of his father, an emotion a lot of us might have experienced. W's relationship with H.W. Bush was one of the main storylines of the movie. He was very undirected in his early life, not knowing what he wanted to do, and his father was always disappointed in him. The movie also has some funny jokes, but it is mostly a drama. It focused on him defining himself as a 'Texan Man' and on him finding Jesus after years of drinking.
I still don't think he was a great president, but I'm glad to have gotten more insight into his life, thanks to this thought-provoking movie directed by Oliver Stone.
I wonder if anyone else has seen it, and if you have, what do you think about the movie?
