i think, personally , that considering video games as true rpgs (as opposed to paper ones), is like comparing books to television. there are some similarities but for those that have never played a "true" rpg experience (meaning, a paper one) they might not understand the true level of interactivity and free formedness that video game "rpg's" don't share.
nothing against the titleing of computer games as rpg's or anything - i just think it's interesting that many shallow video games get "rpg" tagged on so casually. i love vid's and "rpg" vids too but i would never put them on the level of role playing as a paper game.
Aw man, you smell like Phys-ed!

ooh! back that! i love the ultima series. i really only followed it closely up until 5 (great game!) but i did dabble with the later series. there are some rpg elements to IV and V that still haven't surfaced as deeply in current titles.

Narrator: Man lives in the sunlit world of what he believes to be reality. But... there is, unseen by most, an underworld, a place that is just as real, but not as brightly lit... a Darkside

Final Fantasy VII is the greatest RPG of all time.
Greatest CRPG, and I might agree. The greatest roleplaying game of all time is the one that started them all. Dungeons and Dragons. Especially these days with Eberron.
NOTHING has *EVER* come close to replicating the magic that is D&D.

Such a tough decision. The best video game RPG is a tie between Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 3 for SNES. As far as paper RPG'S go, the only one I have ever played is D&D which is really fun but I have no other one to compare it to.

this might be a bit of a stretch but grand theft auto: san andreas is right up there as well. I consider it a rpg, even though alot of people don't
I liked Vice City better than San Andreas....I guess I prefer mafia antics over gangsta shizzle.
true but I thought that this game played better and It felt a hell of a lot longer. I liked the music a little better in san andreas too. of course if you play it on xbox, you can have your own music play. I just thought san andreas was a more in-depth, more fun game all in all.
