If I saw a movie and I thought the ending sucked, going home and re-writing the ending in a way that pleases me doesn't change anything. There's been things we all wish we could change about a story, but simply writing it down isn't going to make those things come true. I dunno. Not trying to bash the fan-fic writers out there, I know people write about things because they love the characters. But seems like if you're going to spend that much time writing a story, you might as well create original characters and make it an original work.

Ain't that the truth. If you can devote unofficial college final-length stories to already established characters that you don't hold the rights to, why not just go all out and create your own stuff?

What's wrong with writing because you like to do so or like writing scenarios that was never touched upon in said series? IMO, there's nothing wrong with fanfic writing, unless the person writing it, goes about treating it as if it actually happened. It's a harmless hobby, and it does entertain some.

I like reading and writing fanfiction simply because the character and the plot is already developed and people can already relate to certain things and can easily visualize the characters. It helps a lot. I agree that writing fanfiction is little more than a harmless hobby. And it's really fun as well to put your favorite characters in a new and unique situation.

Like one I'm working on now has Batman team up with Mr. Incredible and Superman. It's set in the Incredibles universe, so superheroes have been banned for a while, but Batman never retired like everyone else. He's a rogue, that's what he would do. He would do what he thought was right even if it was against the law.

SuperRainCheck 6 years 2 months ago Posts: 366	I've never written fan fiction, but I have drawn fan comics of Alexander the Grape and E.T.. Both of them are wanted criminals. E.T. eats small children and lays eggs. The E.T. hatchlings start eating people all over town, but one boy who dared to eat toast at night saved the world from their menace. Toast kills E.T., you see. However, E.T. runs away and eludes the police. Alexander the Grape is a murderous beast. He shot a convenience store clerk over a pack of gum and got involved in a shoot out with the police. "I will never surrender!" Alexander yelled. He was arrested shortly after. He managed to break out of prison and contact a girl he had seen at K-Mart ten years before. After an altercation involving a man who didn't know about the Snorks, he was arrested again and put into rehabilitation. He now works for the police with his partner Lemonhead. They are getting one step closer to bringing E.T. to justice.

You already have an idea what the characters are like and have an idea as to how a character could possibly act in certain situations. When I used to write on a reg basis, I'd say between 1999 - 2002 is where I seemed to write the most, I had loads of fun. It was cool coming up with goofy scenarios for the characters. It's like that Digi-fic I mentioned earlier that I wrote years ago. If Koushirou would've never had that conversation with his parents, where they made it clear that they didn't see him as poison to their family's bloodline just because he wasn't really their son, how would he have turned out? I just ran with it and had fun writing a fic where he wanted to find out more about his adoption. Looking back now, the story idea wasn't a bad one, but, imo, it was badly written. My very first fanfiction, before I knew what fanfiction was...way before, I was in Elementary School. I wrote a story about the Gummi Bears. It was very simplistic, though. Not much detail. It's a Dragon Warrior IV fan fiction, and it gives a more detailed origin story for Saro, the villain. It also pretty much covers the entire game, so it's kind of a big spolier.

Cambion 6 years 2 months ago Posts: 335	I feel your pain, SS Jup81. I have a shitload of ideas for original stories, but my issue is with getting them off the ground, so to speak. I completed one story in full, and it was a long short story (about 31,000 words), but it really sucks. Everything else is just a pipe dream because I'm not an experienced writer. Even among fanfiction, I limit myself to certain genres, particularly romance (read: yaoi) and angst (not emo angst, but non-suicide character death). I just prefer those the most and that is how I often write - romance, angst, or a combination of the two.
