    Hi,

Who knows about the Konami VRC6 sound chip that had been used for the Japanese version of Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (or Akumajou Densetsu, as the Japs like to call it)?

Having recently admitted to hearing the Jap version, I kind of like that one better in terms of its extra sound shades (obviously). It's too bad Nintendo's policy on game releases for the U.S. NTSC market prevented the Konami chip from surfacing on to the American version of the game we call Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse; obviously Konami had been forced to use the MMC5 sound chip specific to other U.S.-market N.E.S. games released in the '90s.

Some of the songs in CV3 sound better in the American version, like the Red Tower. It just doesn't sound as good with that super fancy chip! All in all, I'd say that the US version's music is slightly better.

it's a great chip. That's why most videos of the game are done in the japanese version

So the VRC series chips may make certain game songs sound good and others so-so.

              Bingo.

Here's Rising, the song that places in the Red Tower. Compare to how it sounds in the Jap version, and you'll believe me. (Cut and paste the URL onto Google Toolbar or something)
