I knew Annihilation was going to be horrible after seeing the trailers. Seriously, you can't go from 1 to 3 without 2, so why make a movie about the first game, then jump to one about the third? Ridiculous. The fight scenes weren't bad, but there were too many characters and a horrid plot. Animality? When was that ever important in the game other than a test of skill? And Raiden a mortal? Come on... You know, James Remar did well in filling Lambert's shoes, but there was a reason he didn't come back for this movie.
But anyway, the first film was really good. It followed the game pretty well and had some good kombat mixed with some good music. Goro, although awesome-looking at first, should have been a bit more broad-shouldered and less humanoid, but that's just a small gripe I have. And I was iffy on Linden Ashby as Johnny Cage but he pulled it off nicely. Speaking of actors, the cast was very apt, especially Lambert and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa.
It's the best video game-based movie I've seen thus far.
