....I've been to many shows, but I was never a show junkie (like some people I knew, who had to go to every single concert that came around).
My first concert was in 1983, JUDAS PRIEST at the New Haven Coleseum. A venue they are currently tearing down to make way for a mall or something. It was a pit even back in 83 so.....no tears shed.
Anyhow, I remember it quite well because up until that time my only exposure to real rock concerts were Live Albums. It was definately an eye opener. The air thick with weed The sound was deafening.....$14.00 pricetag for the good seats....
I've seen Al 2 times..no..3....3 times? 2 or 3 times.
The first time was on the IN 3D Tour.....I had front row seats and al played in t the round (center stage that turned slowly).
Me and my buddy were there amidst a whole bunch of drunk people alot older than we were (we were freakin kids!). This was classic Al, in the Jeff Spiccoli checkerboard Vans and hawaiian shirt.
Al was singing and jumped out into the crowd and landed in the guys lap right next to me, then he took off the pastel scarf he was wearing, wiped all the sweat off his face and shoved it in this guys face before getting back up onstage. IT was great...We left the show going "WEIRD AL SWEAT ON US!"
Best part was afer the show, we kept waiting for Al to come out of the back of the venue where he and the band were. And the band would do gags like walk towards the door (the windows were frosted you could only see shapes)..so you'd see a bunch of guys cheering inside, and the group of us outside would cheer...and they'd rush towards the door..and we'd cheer..then they'd just stop and turn around and walk back.
Then, after about an hour of this nonsense, finally you could see a bushy-haired guy approaching the door...we cheered!
He began to pump his arms behind the frosted glass!
WE CHEERED LOUDER! AL! AL! AL!
The door Flies Open and suddenly this BROOM wearing a lampshade and an overcoat gets stuck out the door and shaken around, and then quickly brought back inside and some roadie slams the door from inside.
We all, about 100 of us, cracked up laughing our asses off.
.....about 5 minutes later my mom refused to sit in the car anymore and we had to leave, without autographs.
I will not admit what my first concert was...far too embarassing. Don't even ask!
However, some shows of note that I've seen over the years...
Ramones Sex Pistols (reunion tour...for what it's worth) Jawbreaker Green Day (twice...'91,'93...before they got famous...that's right, I'm cool!) Pink Floyd (my God, what a show!!!!!!) Descendants Sonic Youth Rocket From the Crypt Guitar Wolf The Cure ('92, '96) Social Distortion Fugazi Gwar Eric Clapton ...but that only skims the surface.
And from when I was young and had TERRIBLE taste in music... Poison Cinderella Ratt The Cult (although, that one's not TOO embarrassing) Queensryche (this was on the "Empire" tour...I went cuz the entire second set was the complete "Operation: Mindcrime" album...which I still think is one of the few good late 80s hair metal records.)
Descendents EVERYTHING SUCKS is one of my personal favorite discs.... Its gonna be one of the CD's I leave to my kids
Along with GWAR, Minor Threat.....and Dark Side Of The Moon.
However we aren't listing concerts, I wanted to hear about your FIRST concert!
I've been to Ministry, Sepultura, Helmet (and thats just one show..yeesh!), Suicidal Tendencies, Pantera...oh and I had front row for a Peter Murphy show that I thought was great........during my Art Rock stage
