dalmatianlover 6 years 4 months ago Posts: 83	I might as well give up. I've written so many articles, but now, I seem to be getting nothing but failures. I can't write a decent article. I can't even get people to like a Batman article! All I get is arguments about so many things. These are the top 5 things I've been accused of in my articles: #5 - Excluding things that others like #4 - Bad selection of pictures #3 - Poor research #2 - Opinions that others disagree with #1 - Ripping off the Angry Video Game Nerd Seriously, what is going on here? Is it just because I was being a little hard on other people? Is that why everybody is giving my articles thumbs downs? I now have like 7 articles that are on the back page, so I might as well just quit. I don't understand why you accuse me of being critical on other's articles when plenty of people have been critical on mine. So, you're saying that it's alright for you guys to criticize my articles, but it's not alright for me to criticize your's? Lastly, I am SICK TO DEATH of people accussing ME of RIPPING OFF the ANGRY VIDEO GAME NERD! It's like people are saying, "Only the Nerd can say that stuff, and nobody else is allowed to say it!" That's bogus! And why is it that everybody is pointing fingers at me when there are thousands of other people who are ripping him off. Even if I so much as say the word, "the", somebody is bound to point their finger at me and say, "Oh, you're ripping off the Angry Video Game Nerd!" Will you guys just stop it already? Who cares if I'm being unoriginal. NOTHING is original! Why do I always have to be the one to pick on? I just want to be treated with a little more respect, and don't just bash me all the time just because you think I'm bashing too much, which I'm not, I'm just giving my honest opinions. Commenting on people's articles should focus on the topic, not the style! If my articles are going to continue to get bashed because of those 5 things I listed, then I might as well just quit, because I'm nothing but a f**king loser!

I've wanted to write at least one more, because I've been running short on ideas, but I just haven't thought of anything good. I've tried really hard to come up with new ideas, but they just haven't panned out very well.

Well, saying that doesn't bring my articles back to the front page. However, your words encouraged me to keep going. I just submitted a new article just now, and hopefully, this one will blow my previous one away. I've decided I'm no longer going to make any real special articles anymore or try to be someone I'm not. From now on, I'm going to continue to be the old dalmatianlover you all know and love.

Paswa 6 years 4 months ago Posts: 71	After re-reading some of your recent articles, I do think a few of them were lacking. "My SNES Memories" and "My Sega Genesis Memories" didn't really include your memories of playing the games but was a top 10 or 15 list instead. I already commented on my take of the "Overrated Games" article. As for the Batman article, it seemed to lack real content. Almost everything in it I already knew, and it didn't bring much of a personal touch (your memories or opinions). If you make an article, it should either bring new information to the reader or it should share your experience/opinion (or that's just my opinion). You tend to make lists and then share them in article form. I personally prefer your other articles (ex- Disney Sing-Along). But there's nothing wrong with top ten lists. If I had to make one suggestion, it would be to pick topics with a more specific focus (ex- single franchises or related things) rather than a general focus (ex- 70s movies, SNES games). Your articles are good and I refuse to watch the angry video game nerd, so I would have no idea when/if you pose a similar topic or opinion. Keep it up. If I sound harsh, its only because you asked for criticism, and you seem to be one who would understand. You're a good writer and you know your retro junk. I'm excited to see how the next article turns out.

goblyn 6 years 4 months ago Posts: 41	Well you know, I have noticed that the things people criticize you for are the exact things that you criticize other people for. How many times have we lamented the fact that people will give a thumbs down to an article without enough pictures, and yet that's the exact critique you gave a recent article. So unless people are hacking into your profile and critiquing articles with your user name, you're having the issue where you are giving negative comments for things you are yourself guilty of. You can't expect your opinion to be valued if you yourself don't take your own advice. I'm not saying that your articles are bad, but I think the problem is that you've put yourself on a pedestal (remember your article about how to write an article?) and that has made you very vulnerable. Also, you need to lie low with the negative critiques for a while. People on this site are still kind of ticked at you for that how to write articles article, and the fact that you're being extremely harsh with people (your critique of the barbie is a brat article was not helpful at all, you just said it was a sorry excuse for an article, without saying why it was, and to tell you the truth I thought it was a pretty damn good article, even without pictures!) is just making it worse. Lie low, continue to churn out some good articles and this will all blow over. But if you continue to complain and whine and fish for compliments and go out of your way to be harsh on your critiques, then people are going to hold it against you. Or, you could FINALLY take everyone's advice and not try to churn out 700 articles a week, and just work really hard on making one awesome article! But you've so far refused to really listen to the critiques your articles get and continue to churn out articles that aren't top 40 material. I don't know if you've noticed or not, but I have personally made an attempt to not be too harsh with you lately because the few articles you did after the how to write articles article debacle were pretty damn good, but honestly, you need to stop whining about it, or your going to dig yourself a deeper grave!

Are you going to take a few little bad comments when you write perfectly good articles? Never mind the critics, I've read your articles on several occassions and they are always a good read. Write more articles, and forget about what others think, because there will always be your fans and your harsh critics. Think of the fans of your articles, not the ones who hate them.

If someone wants to be unnecessarily harsh ignore them, tell them to show you better. If you really want to please them then take their advice, change your style. Otherwise keep with your game, 7 out of 50 is no big deal. Do you think every writer had a win every time? No. You brush past the failures and move on keeping the next goal in mind.

ProphetSword 6 years 4 months ago Posts: 29 Account Disabled	For what it's worth, I actually tried to defend you on the Batman article (read the last comment I posted before it disappeared into the back page). I felt it was unfair to compare you to AVGN when: a) the new Batman movie was bound to bring out someone doing a history of the series, and b) just because AVGN did it doesn't mean he owns it, and c) you actually covered a lot of stuff in the article before parts 2 and 3 of his history were even out...meaning you got there first. Now, these are my suggestions to you. Some of them might seem harsh, but if you really think about them, you'll see that I'm trying to help you. Here goes: 1) Stop doing Top 10 lists. Most of the time, we don't see enough of who you are in those lists. They are bland and unexciting. I would rather read a review of one movie or game that meant a lot to you than to read small blurbs about 10 games you played in your lifetime. Make things personal. 2) Take your time writing your articles. It feels to me that you are rushing the articles in your glory to stay on the front page. Keep in mind that QUALITY is far more important than QUANTITY, and writing one really good article would go farther than 10 really crappy articles that get sent to the back page. 3) Learn to take criticism. Not everyone will like what you write. And, as I told you plainly in response to one of your articles, not all opinions that are expressed will be to your liking. Learn to live with it. Either say nothing or respectfully disagree, but don't turn it into an argument. A disagreement or dislike for an article does not mean someone hates you. Stop taking it personally. 4) Finally, don't criticize others unless you can follow your own rules. That is the biggest issue I think people have with you. All that said, I don't think you're a bad person. I don't dislike you in any way. Despite having a few run-ins from time to time, I still read your articles. Some I like a lot and I give a thumbs up and some I don't. There's a wise old saying that goes like this: "You can please some of the people some of the time, but you'll never please all of the people all of the time." Learn to live with that and you'll be fine. Peace.

Just recently, all I did was write an article about cartoon characters that I thought were the coolest, but everyone is giving it a thumbs down just because they disagreed with my opinions. I put so much effort into that article, and everybody is just being flat out unfair! Reading all those comments, there are some who thought my article was well-written, but everybody else was basically just flat out saying, "Dalmatianlover, GO TO HELL!" If my next article gets sent to the back page as fast as that one, I'll definately know that something's wrong.
