Does anyone here listen to, or have listened to Siouxsie & the Banshees?

The band was formed in London in 1976 by singer Siouxsie Sioux (real name: Susan J. Dallion) and bassist Steven Severin, who had previously been members of The Bromley Contingent.

Other members of The Banshees had included:
    Marco Pirroni - guitar (1976-1977)
Sid Vicious (real name: John S. Ritchie) - drums (1976-1977)
    Pete Fenton - guitar (1977-1978)
    Dixon - drums (1977-1978)
    John McKay - guitar (1978-1979)
    Kenny Morris - drums (1978-1979)
    Robert Smith (The Cure) - guitar/vocals (1979-1980, 1982-1984)
Budgie (real name: Peter Clarke) - drums (1979-1995)
    John McGeoch - guitar/vocals (1980-1983)
    John V. Carruthers - guitar (1983-1987)
    Jon Klein - guitar (1987-1995)
    Martin McCarrick - cello/keys/vocals (1987-1995)
    Knox Chandler - guitar (1995)

"Sid Vicious" would find fame drumming for The Sex Pistols (actually, it was the Pistols that had inspired the members of The Banshees to form their own group in the first place) while Marco Pirroni would join Adam & the Ants. Robert Smith was the quintessential guitarist/singer and bandleader within The Cure (he claims it was The Banshees that inspired him to found his own group).

Side projects for The Banshees included Siouxsie Sioux and husband-to-be Budgie forming The Creatures (who'd released albums in 1982 and 1989), while bassist Steven Severin formed The Glove with The Cure's Robert Smith (which released only one LP in 1983, titled Blue Sunshine).

    Notable songs:
    Hong Kong Garden (1978)
    Mirage (1979)
    The Staircase (Mystery) (1979)
    Happy House (1980)
    Spellbound (1981)
    Fireworks (1982)
    Slowdive (1982)
    Dear Prudence (1983)
    Swimming Horses (1984)
    Dazzle (1984)
    Cities in Dust (1985)
    Candy Man (1986)
    This Wheel's on Fire (1987)
    Peek-a-Boo (1988)
    The Killing Jar (1988)
    Kiss Them for Me (1991)

"Cities In Dust" is easily one of the greatest songs of the 80s. It has a great sense of foreboding to it...A sense that Hell lurks around every corner, and you never know what'll happen next.

I also like Siouxsie's look as well. It's a look that screams "Don't touch me or you're dead!".

          Wasn't she fat?

Not my cup of tea. I had a roommate that liked them.

Just to piss him off, I'd pronounce it "Sook-See"

The only song I've heard from them was Halloween. That's a great song.

I'm letting the goth side down by being one of the few who doesn't like them all that much despite having a copy of The Rapture. I just didn't get into them as much as I could. The Rapture has a few good songs on it.

That was their last album from 1995 before splitting up. It was produced by John Cale, who was a founding member of Velvet Underground with Lou Reed.

My favorite Banshees songs, as mentioned before, are:
                        *Hong Kong Garden (August 1978)
                        *Happy House (March 1980)
                        *Red Light (1980)
                        *Spellbound (July 1981)
                        *Fireworks (May 1982)
                        *Slow Dive (October 1982)
*Dear Prudence (September 1983; cover of a Beatles song)
                        *Dazzle (May 1984)
                        *Cities in Dust (October 1985)
*This Wheel's on Fire (January 1987; cover of a Bob Dylan song, for which Siouxsie drew inspiration from the Julie Driscoll version)
                        *Peek-A-Boo (July 1988)
*Kiss Them for Me (May 1991; this was their lone U.S. Hot 100 Top 40 effort)
