If 1999 is retro this year won't that mean 2000 is retro next year?

I think the system works in the way that it has all 90's. Might need to wait til 2010 for that coverage. But I could be wrong.

I think it's awesome that the 90's are considered retro. I missed all but one year of the 80's so I'm atleast part of something retro. However, in 2010 I'll be 21, and it would be weird to think that 2000 would be considered retro, so I guess I see that part of your point.

Yeah, uh...I don't consider the 90's retro. Maybe I'm getting old.

I don't consider the 90s retro either. Granted, the better part of my memories are from the 90s, but that's not retro. The usual rule of thumb is it has to be about 20 years old. But there wasn't an abrupt transition from 89 to 90, so it's sometimes hard to tell where the 80s stuff ends and 90s begin.

IMO, something isn't Retro until it hits at least 15 years old.
Meaning 1990 just became retro this year.

I think that if something has disappeared long enough for it to leave your mind for a while, and then when you remember it again you go "oh yeah, I remember that." then its retro. So Animaniacs, although it ended in 1998, is retro since it's been gone for many years (unless you got digital cable) and I have fond past memories of it. So in my opinion retro can be just a few years. But for something like Spongebob which debuted in 1999 but is still making new eps, that aint retro.
                    WHAT?

Nah, to be Retro, there has to be enough time for a generation to pass.
Its not retro until there's a new group of kids come up tha have never even heard of it before that you can wow with your ancient toons.

At the very least, thats 10 years.

I tried to get down to the bottom of this, to get a solid, concrete definition of the word 'retro'....and as far as I can tell, every definition leaves room for interpretation. It's basically 'reminiscent of things past'...which could mean 30 years ago, or 30 days ago. So, you're all right. But Edymnion's more right.

How long has the term "retro" been around, anyway?
