I need a gun, or advice. It seems I always run into disasters. Tonight it was a baby raccoon with it's front hands(paws)/partof snout /face hacked off in a car accident. I had to stop as a DHL guy had his truck stopped in the road to help. The little guy kept trying to come to us and collapsed over and over...I called and waited for the police..who kept saying they would be there soon(but did not)..I can't believe I left this little creature in so much pain.my car would not have made it into the brush to put him out of his misery..His front paws were gone---stubby, bloody,, blobs..
I have seen so much of this, any suggestions??

Carry a shovel, you can kill most stuff faily fast with a shovel.

We just had to kill one of the kittens because our new dog tried to eat it. We just shot it.
It's part of life. It happens. I wouldn't get all worked up over it.

Wow, that sounded about as unpleasant as it gets.

I carry a little t-ball bat for any self-defense/killing purposes. Its basically like a billy club, but its legal to carry around because its a bat.

Geez...that sounds pretty terrible, outfit. Do you really want to have to go around shooting everything that's wounded? I think you should just harden up a bit and avoid pulling over to suffer along with the animal. Does that sound cold?

I've only cried once when an animal was killed. One of my dogs killed a rabbit, and it died in my arms, after I petted it to make its last moments on earth enjoyable. I buried it in the yard.

I agree with the pig on this one. A shovel is always handy for many, many reasons.

Does your area have an Animal Control? You can program their number into your phone, and they are typically quicker to respond when you call them directly, rather than if the police have to dispatch them, which is probably what they were trying to do.

It would be easier for me to leave it than to bash its head in with a shovel if thats what you guys are suggesting.

Well sometimes killing it is mercy. Ever seen Old Yeller? Just about everyone I know who saw that movie cried.

Easier for you, sure. However, what about going past what is "easier" and helping the thing for the greater good? Not necessarily killing it, but aiding it in general?

Ive never thought of it that way. But its still hard to wrap my mind around killing an animal like that.

It's an act of mercy, not just for shits and giggles. Anyone who can leave an animal in pain like that and not think twice about it is not anyone I would ever want to be associated with.

I didn't say I wouldn't think twice about it. Of course I would, no matter what I chose to do id feel bad about it for a while. I just cant see how i'd bring myself to lift up a shovel and smack an animal with it.
