What do you all miss the most in regards to the music of the 1980s?

    Here's what I miss:
*New wave keyboards (Fairlight CMI, Yamaha DX-7, Sequential Circuits Prophet-5 and Prophet-10)
    *Keytars
    *Guitar synthesizers
*The bouffant hairstyles worn by members of the B-52s and Book of Love
*The Jheri curl hairstyle worn by Michael Jackson, Rockwell (the son of Motown Records founder Berry Gordy), DeBarge, and New Edition

It may not have been the most popular, but a lot of it certainly comes from that decade.

I miss REAL rock. All these little fake whiney bands like Maroon 5, Simple Plan and Boy Like Girls and all these other pussies that dare call themselves rock bands. That's why I like 80's rock so much, because they rocked! Hardcore, in-your-face, head-banging rock! The way rock is supposed to be! Not a bunch of girlish dudes with high whiney voices bitching about a bunch of bullshitr. It downright blapshamey.

That has to do with the type of men women look for these days. Instead of body-building, masculine men who would defend their girl with their life, they want whiny little queers who talk with an exceptionally exaggerated lisp and try to act like girls more than girls themselves do. The term "hunk" is pretty much dead now.

yeah... but we also have to remember that in the 80's alot of the "rock" bands wore more makeup and more hairspray than any girl i know now... (mettalica not included)

But their look didn't translate to their music though...

Now they look and sound the part.

I miss The Cure. I know, I know, you can all throw rotten tomatoes at me for that statement, but come on, you know The Cure is awesome!

I agree with you. They were great. I still have all their CDs. Robert Smith is still bringing stuff out but I don't think he has been able to recapture what The Cure did in the 80s. Wish was their last great album in my book.

Well, I can't really "miss" anything, as i don't remember the 80's, but things I like most about 80's music is definitely the synthesizers and the synth bass lines that so many 80's songs had, the drum machines (roland tr-808, linn etc), the fashion, the big hair....yeah.

I guess Techno did exist in the 80's, but mostly underground, and it didn't sound like techno of today (duh), but you did have stuff like synthpop, electro, a lot of rock, pop, funk and r&b had techno-like electronic sounds.

I can't stand 80s pop music. It's so fucking horrible.

And I hated hair metal as well.

I've said it before and I will say it again, music in the 80's was just more fun. Concerts were fun to go to because the bands were so into the music. Many bands now just kind of stand there and act like it is to much work to even play their music. Boring.

are you kidding?....80's pop music was great, I HATE today's pop music.

hair metal....hmm, it's probably my least favorite 80's genre, but i like some songs.

The Fairlight CMI. It had the "barking dog" sample that was heard on the Pet Shop Boys' 1986 song "Suburbia."

See the video of "Suburbia" here:
