I believe that the Ed boys, who premiered on the Cartoon Network in 1999, have lost their touch. I miss the good ol' episodes where the animation was a lot cruder, the voices were just developing, and the storylines to the episodes were better! In addition, the jokes were also better and made me laugh more! What I'm referring to is the first season of the show.
The second season was also quite good and had plenty of laughs to go around. The animation and voices were slightly different, but it was almost just as good as the first. The third season came after, which had a fair amount of good laughs but not as many as the first two seasons. Then came season four. To me, this is where the show started going downhill... In the fourth season, the jokes are VERY weak, the animators try to hard to make the animation look uneven and rushed, and the voice acting is way too overdramatic!
What's more, some of the characters start to lose their touch. For example, they always make Eddy as if he's some kind of bad guy when the reality of it is he wasn't like that ALL the time in the first three seasons! Sure, we all know that his character is greedy, but not EVERY past episode had to focus on him trying to scam the other kids in the cul-de-sac for their money! I can understand character development and all, but I think they've destroyed Eddy's character and it sucks! (He's one of my favorites, after all) Then there's Jimmy, who's supposed to the wussy (but funny) little kid in the neighborhood. In the newer episodes, they turn him into some stuck-up snob! Also, they've made Kevin's character too mean-sprited and cruel to the point where it's just not funny anymore! The other characters' personalities seem alright, but the overdramatic voice acting should be toned down and Sarah could be less of a b*tch (like how she was in the first three seasons)
Finally, what's with the newest episodes they've aired recently where they all go back to school? I mean, the story is SUPPOSED to take place around the summertime! It pretty much ruins the purpose for what it's all about! I think the creator, Danny Antonucci, should go back to the way he made the show in the beginning (with the cruder animation, the less dramatic voice acting, and jokes) because the OLD episodes were definately the BEST! It's a shame what it has become now. Doesn't anyone else agree?
