the90sruled 6 years 5 months ago Posts: 282 Globally Banned	Just yesterday I managed to get my dad to drive around looking for garage sales & Boy was I lucky! I found a tape featuring an episode of Friends, An episode of Will & Grace(a season finale actually), An episode of Frasier & An episode of Mad About You all from NBC recorded in SP Hi-Fi. EDIT: Forgot to metion I bought another blank tape that had an episode of Fear Factor on it.

blueluigi 6 years 4 months ago Posts: 3365 Account Disabled	I did find a VHS recording at a garage sale that contains 3 movies taped off HBO in the 1980s. The StuntMan, Flash Gordon, and Bye Bye Birdie (Bye Bye Birdie is in very awful video quality for whatever dumb reason). I also have a Disneyland Songbook tape which seems to be copied from the VHS release. I'd like to trade something for the HBO tape because I don't really need that.

shiroihikari 6 years 4 months ago Posts: 1751	I have a tape full of Twin Peaks episodes from 1989-ish, commercial breaks intact. I've been looking for more home-recorded tapes like that, but I actually haven't had a lot of luck yet.

The best I've found was a few episodes from the first season of "A Different World" with commercials. There's a guy at a local flea market who kept all of the cartoon holiday specials he had recorded for his grandkids in the 1980s. I bought about a dozen tapes off him for $3. TONS of awesome 80s toons with commercials.

theguilty1 6 years 2 months ago Posts: 67	I found a dinosaur show narrated by Christopher Reeve. We watch the video when I was in kindergarten, and I had only seen it maybe once since then. I was very, very happy when I found it. I also found a copy of Ice Pirates at a garage sale. I was trying to explain how ridiculous that flick is to my wife, so I was pretty excited when I found it. I've been lucky about finding quite a few tapes of shows I watched when I was a kid. The Beetlejuice cartoon, M.A.S.K., The Real Ghostbusters.

Derrick2008 6 years 1 month ago Posts: 8	For me, I have found lots and lots of tapes recorded off TV at thrift stores and flea markets. The oldest tape I have, and I found this recently, is of a couple of movies recorded off WKCH-TV 43 (now WTNZ-TV 43) in Knoxville from 1985. A news brief with Phil Rainey (WKCH staff announcer) is included along with local commercials. One local commercial I found interesting was an Alert Transmission commercial where the car's transmission was talking. I am not sure if Alert Transmission is still around. Another old tape I have is of a movie taped off WBIR-TV 10 called "The Karate Kid II" from 1988 and it was the network television premiere on NBC. The commercials I have include an Oldsmobile commercial with Frankie Avalon, Jr. and his father. I also have a tape of movies recorded off WRGT-TV 45 in Dayton, Ohio and WKRC-TV 12 in Cincinnati, Ohio from around 1984 or 1985. However, there is a logo bug on the movie recorded off WKRC-TV 12. Also, I have a tape of a pool match from 1987 recorded off ESPN with some commercials included. I know I am posting too much but recently, there was a person that had a lot of blank VHS tapes recorded off TV. I got episodes of Mr. Belvedere, Hunter, Burke's Law, and The Price is Right (partial episodes). I also got an NBA game that included some commercials and lots of Gulf War coverage taped off NBC, CNN, and Headline News. I got them for get this...25 cents. That is an amazing deal on the tapes I found. These tapes range from around 1988 to about the early to mid 1990s.

MissALibra86 5 years 11 months ago Posts: 525	I have found a lot of tapes with stuff taped off of TV - holiday cartoon specials (Charlie Brown, Garfield's Halloween, etc.), episodes of Small Wonder, the movie Prancer, Muppet Babies, etc. and they ALL have those cool, cheesy old commercials on them. The weirdest tape I found was a home tape of a woman showing off her puppies and weighing them, etc. as she was raising them.
