Holy crap, nice find! :D I've had a bunch of stuff in storage ever since I joined the Navy back in '96....I haven't seen it since then. I'd love to go through it and see what kind of knick knacks I'll find. It's in Albany, OR though, and the closest thing I have to family there is RaZZu. :P

Actually, that might be possible next summer, as my wife and I will most likely be heading back to Oregon (Coos Bay) to look at properties. Albany's fairly close. Only thing is, I have no clue how I'd get into the storage....it's my dad's contract and he lives in Modesto now. :?

p.s. : I was on the shitty Kitty!! I actually rode that thing into the Gulf and down to Australia. It caught on fire 125+ times. We were all hoping it would sink after we got back to Yokosuka.

125+ fires on one sail? damn, you'd be better off getting towed in the dingy.

It IS the oldest commissioned ship in the Navy...it was commissioned back in 1961 and saw plenty of action in Vietnam. It's one of the last two conventional (non-nuclear) carriers the Navy has.

You should have been on the Kitty Hawk....it would have kept you plenty busy.

I'm a tour guide for LST 325 officially docked here in Evansville (we built them during the war). Its only volunteer work. We also built P-47's, but its very hard to get a cost effective one to bring back to the city. Theres a recently discovered one at the bottom of a lake in Italy, but it would cost nearly 2 million to salvage it and bring it here. :?

HOLY CRAP....A guy I work with is from Evansville. You know anyone in the tornado situation?

Fortunately noone I know was hurt. My great aunt had a tree come through her roof and what appeared to be what was left of a push mower crack her brick, but she was lucky because her next door neighbor (they're about acre and half lots) barely has anything left on the foundation. The tornado came across the Ohio on the east side of town. I live on the west side. I drove by the trailer park where I think it was 17 people died- it was something else.

Good to hear that. By the way, I talked to my friend at work again, and he said his dad was one of the dudes that helped move LST-325 into port. :D
