Because some of us can't get our NES systems to work anymore. Like I said, I have one. My brother got it for me off e-bay as a birthday gift (and a rather cool one, in principle). However, my NES has failed to work on a greater and greater frequency as time went on. Heck, I can hardly remember the last time my NES worked.
If there's a better than decent chance that a piece of new tech will work better to play those games than a piece of old tech will, I may have to get the new one.
As for the GBA question, yes there are a number of games that have been ported over. However, though it'll suffice to a degree, it's a poor substitute. These games are made to be played on a television screen, not a tiny Game Boy screen. It's not in keeping with the NES experience.
