Who remembers Jesse Fuller's "San Francisco Bay Blues"?
Fuller is a Delta blues guitarist who also plays kazoo, harmonica, and, the fotdella.
For those of you who don't know what the "fotdella" is, it was the idea of Fuller himself and it consisted of an upright box with a round top (which vaguely looks like the top of a double bass) with a short neck on top. He then added a homemade set of foot pedals, with each bringing a padded hammer to strike a string when depressed (similar to that of the action of keys on a piano). With these six bass notes, Fuller could accompany himself on his 12-string guitar in different keys. The name "fotdella" was coined by the singer's wife, who took to calling it a "foot diller."
On to the song itself, who remembers hearing such lines as:
"I got the blues from my baby left me by the San Francisco bay" or "Walking with my baby down by the San Francisco bay"?
