One Louder 3 years 9 months ago Posts: 728 Account Disabled	There's a huge difference, Brian Epstine put the Beatles in suits but he didn't pick the members of the group out of a catalogue, plus they wrote mostly their own songs (and in the early days did some good cover songs) and in late '64 freaked out on drugs and went beyond their original short pop love songs template. The Monkees started out manufactured but starting with their third album took on some of the artistic control of the project and started writing and choosing material for the group and playing more on their backing tracks. I like some of the Monkees stuff. The out of print 2 cd Monkess best of Monkees Anthology from Rhino is a solid set of songs. Herman's Hermits are more like the 90's/ 00's boy bands than the Monkees and the Beatles. I won't argue that Herman's Hermits suck. You'd never see N Sync make a movie like the Monkees' Head and you'd never see Take That put out something like Revolution #9 or the side two medley from Abbey Road.

I heard a 50s style "alternative" song on a radio station I listen to all the time; the same station that plays Green Day, Evanescense, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and all the other good music I grew up with. One Louder 3 years 6 months ago Posts: 728 Account Disabled	Cee-lo to me is a bit derrivative of early 70's R&B but I'll take that over most modern style R&B anyday. I liked Taylor Swift when she first came on the scene but now I think she's too bland and one dimensional. I can't tell any of her songs apart now. I agree with the rest of Mysticwryter's list. Adele sounds like an Amy Winehouse clone to me, I don't know why she's getting so many accolades in the UK right now. Mumford & Sons are awful, they're a folk rock boyband. Midlake are a far better current folk rock band.

I can kinda see why people wouldn't totally dig Cee-Lo Green's old-school jazzy R&B for their own lame reasons, and I admit Bruno Mars does tend to oversing songs that don't call for so much UMPH, though he's still a solid performer... But ADELE not talented?!?! Are...is this a late April Fools Joke?! You put HER in the same list as Swiftie and Gaga and Nicki and Lil Mama (who hasn't even MADE a song in years) and.... No. Just. Wow. You're gone insane and your mind has been transported to some strange alternate dimension where Adele isn't one of the most naturally gifted young vocalists today. Even if most of her songs usually have to do with some sort of heartache she went through in a relationship gone wrong, she has that powerful, soulful voice that makes you completely feel every bit of emotion (well, apparently not you, since you're a music communist hating on Queen Adele ). And with songs like Someone Like You, Hometown Glory, Make You Feel My Love, and a number of others, the studio and live performances are damn near indistinguishable, with just a piano and her voice belting out awesomeness effortlessly. And the only comparison between Amy Winehouse and Adele is that they're both British. That's. About. It. That's like comparing Justin Bieber to Elvis just because they're both teenage pop icon sex symbols of their time whose music was white-washed from a style that came from lesser known black musicians before them. coughcough So..yeah. You don't gotta like her, but to say she isn't talented is just...just silly.
