Any books you've read that you feel should be made into a movie.

My first choice was the Chronicles of Narnia, but thats already being made.....Yay!!!

Other choice would be A Wrinkle in Time.

Has anyone read the Dark Tower series by Steven King? That should be made into a movie!!! Not a cheesey one, but have it like a lord of the ring epic adventure. That would be cool, and throw in some great special effects from Idustrial Light and Magic(guys who did star wars) and the movie would brake all box office records.

        Red Storm Rising!

Nothing like World War III to bring patrons flocking to the theaters.

The Hobbit would be pretty neat as well, I heard they are waiting for Peter Jackson to be free in order for him to do the project. But apparently he has taken the job to make a Halo movie.

The Inheritance Trilogy by Christopher Paolini

The first book "Eragon" is actually being made into a movie already though so I'll definately have to catch that. ^^

Damn it, that's what I was going to say. I was thinking, though, that it would be cool if they did the first book "The Gunslinger" in old school technicolor like the Clint Eastwood spagetti westerns, and in the "Drawing of Three" they did a mixture of film qualities, old school technicolor in Roland's world and modern day digital film for Eddy and Suzanna's world, you know, for artistic merit (maybe even have the Wizard and Glass be in black and white, except for the wizard's eye, which would be pink.) As the series went on, they would use ILM for the special effects, like Shardik the Bear, the weapontry of the Wolves, the Spider boy and others.

They did make a wrinkle in time into a TV movie...IT WAS HORRIBLE!!!! Butcher beyond belief and made to look extra cheesy. This is an all time favorite book of mine. and was pissed it was ruined on tv.

I cant think of any other books that they havent already started or thinking about making into a movie.

I remember Mel Gibson was attached to a film about Farenheit, but was scrapped. But I know he really wants to make a movie about it.

Agreed. My pet project for if I ever made it as a big director was to be War of the Worlds... but since that's been turned into a joke remake of Independence day and the original source material has been defaced by Paragon pictures,

the my second choice is the Dark Tower series. I have still only read the first 4 volumes though!!

Dean Koontz's "Lightning" would kick ass....if they got the right people to make it, that is. They've pretty much screwed up every single book he's written when they make movies out of them..."Mr. Murder", "Phantoms", "Intensity", etc...they've all sucked.

                                  - The Catcher In The Rye, but J.D. Salinger would never allow it and it'd probably suck anyway.

-The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay.

                                  - The Magic Faraway Tree and The Wishing Chair. These books are ten times better than Harry Potter, and would make for awesome movies.

I wouldn't mind seeing any of the Harry Turtledove alternate history books turned into a movie.

Its from like the 70's I believe. I've never read the book but I did enjoy the movie alright.

Pretty much everything I read is historical non-fiction.

If you are interested in the Roman Empire read, Rome in Africa by Susan Raven. It tells the story of Carthage and the Romans developmet of Africa after it conquered Carthage.

Another good book is, Imperial Rome and the Christian Triumph by Jas' Elsner. This book tells of the Empires conversion to Christianity and its adoption of certain pagan symbols to Christian mythology. The book also gives a good history of Emperors through art and architechture such as, Septimius Serverus, Carracalla, Constantine, Diocletion, and many more.

Also, if you are interested in Augustus's use of propaganda, The Power of Images in the Age of Augustus, by Paul Zanker is excellant( I am still kicking myself for selling this one back). This book tells in detail the meaning of the Ara Pacis, Gemma Augusta, the use of coins as propaganda, and much more.
                                      Hope you read this.

The Ear, The Eye, and The Arm, by Nancy Farmer. It's set in futuristic Zimbabwe, and it's about three detectives (one with super-hearing, one with super-vision, and one with psychic sensitivity) who try to find a general's missing children. No few sentences could do it justice, but if anyone else has read it, you'll know how amazing it is.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm interested in the Punic Wars, especially the Scipio v. Hannibal aspect. I've been playing quite a bit of Rome:Total War here lately as well.

The Raven book gives a good review of the Punic wars, especially about their child sacrifices carried over from Phonicia and the middle east, I will ask my professor if he knows of any books about Scipio, I myself am interested in Carthage and its history. I can tell you this Hannibal established a powerbase in Spain, Raven mentions this in her book. Also, Hannibal was employed by monarchs of Asia minor, his defense agaist the Romas was to put poisionus snakes in jars and launch them onto the Roman ships, it was an effective strategy, you can see the fear of snakes in the Great Altar of Pergamon, which they say is a result of Hannibles tactics. J.J. Pollitt's book Art in the Hellenistic Age, tells of this, but I got most of my info about it from one of the premire scholars, Nacy Degrummond about this legand. She is also looking into a connection between the great altar and an archaic christian docturine called the book of Enoch, I impressered her by actually knowing who Enoch was.(shameless bragging  )
