They made a (horrifically translated) movie of the original Dragonball, so it is possible.

Yeah, They announced a couple of years ago that one of the major studios had the rights to DBZ and were working on it. But I read on the 'net this year that it is pretty much dead in the water. I think that DBZ popularity had diminished and there wasn't enough interest. Sort of what happend to the Masters of the Universe movie back in the day. It was released after the fervor for the toy and cartoon died down.

The rumor supposedly has Fox doing distribution with ILM doing the effects however as of about a few months ago Fox officially said that this is untrue. However, as of 2002 Fox does indeed own the rights for a live action film so who knows.

Rumors have attached Roland Emmerich as the director with Tedi Sarafian doing the screenplay and people like Ray Park and Orlando Bloom attached to act. Nothing official though so take it with a grain of salt.

Portugal makes sense. A lot of DBZ is around the planes, plateaus, and coastlines. The wilds of Portugal make sense.

Anyway, if they do make a live action DBZ that doesn't suck, here's hoping for Videl to be in it

Actually I believe this project was scrapped a while ago by Fox soon after they announced it. I loved the speculation as to who would play who.

Some would say Jackie Chan would be Goku and Samuel L. Jackson would be Piccolo

that'll work. Dennis Rodman, Reggie Miller, and Patrick Ewing can be saibamen. or the different forms of cell

Well, if they can get away with Live-Action Sailor Moon, don't know why they couldn't get away with live-action DBZ. Both series are grossly popular.

On Japan's top 100 anime list of stuff currently airing there, from the bit I could make out from the list (all the titles are written in Japanese) number three is Dragon Ball (it's written in katakana so that helped a lot lol).

I heard something about this too, a while back. One of the rumors I heard was Jackie Chan as Goku and Jet Li as Vegeta. If they made a movie it would probably be so lame and cheesy that it would be funny. And hell, if the world series of poker is televised, watch out for a Yu'gi'Oh live action movie!

I bet if a DBZ movie were possible, Orlando Bloom would probably be either Yamcha or Trunks. I don't know who they'd get to play Goku though! Ray Park could probably do pretty well at playing Vegeta. I remember his role as Darth Maul in "Star Wars Episode I - The Phantom Menace" and at the scene where he's talking to Darth Sidious ("At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi. At last we will have revenge.";) he sounds like he has the right kind of sinister tone of voice that Vegeta does. As for Bulma, Natalie Portman would work.

For the movie itself, rumors have been flying around about it for quite a long time now and I get the feeling that the project is probably dead. Despite some good actors on board (e.g. Bloom) it probably still wouldn't work. They'd have to use A LOT of CGI and tweak the outfits a little (like how they re-did the costumes with the first two live action X-Men movies) in order to give it a more convincing and dark approach!

Of course, this would only cause the movie to lead to a series of sequels like how they did with "Star Wars" and "The Lord of the Rings"! This is tiring enough as it already is, because I don't want to have to wait patiently for a sequel to EVERY movie! But to be honest, I'd rather see a live-action movie adaptation to "Outlaw Star" (though I'm sure it would have to be another trilogy in order to fit the entire story in)!

This is a very interesting topic! A DBZ movie DOES sound a bit funny, but imagine if they did a live-action movie of "Yu-Gi-Oh!" LOL! That would be so laughably bad and horrendous! They'd have to get Haley Joel Osment to play Yu-Gi/Yu-Gi-Oh! LOL!
