I was thinking about writing an article on this subject, but first I want to get some feedback on how other people felt towards cartoon antagonist and villains.

When I was a child in the 80s and 90s I was frustrated that almost every episode ended with the villains being humiliated.

I'm still trying to figure out if I wanted more depth form the cartoons or that I just didn't get the moral (if you act bad then will be treated badly).

I've seen a few fans that don't see their favorite villains as evil and are very defensive about that. If you are familiar with some of the more loyal fans of the Decepticons or the Misfits, then you know what I'm talking about.

It would be nice to see Cobra Commander take over the world for once, is that too much to ask? But seriously, I think they actually had a Joes episode that showed an alternate world where Cobra DID rule the planet. Was it Shipwreck who had to deal with that? I can't recall.

You guys obviously enjoyed the cartoon for what that it was.

But I was tied up in the nonexistent emotional tragedy. I was all like, "Cobra Commander must feel so awful that the kids he tryed to brainwash are throwing pies at him."

Celeste did a couple of articles on bad guys. You could use those for templates of how NOT to write the new article.

There was an old GI Joe episode where Cobra had conquered the world in an alternate reality.

Want to feel sorry for some bad guys? Start watching anime. They love to do sympathetic antagonists. They also like to do the "bad guy turns good" thing, which is cool every single time.

Anyway, this is an interesting idea for an article. If you decide to go through with it, good luck.

I felt kind of bad for the Sandman in Spiderman 3. All he's trying to do is make his daughter better...but he did kill Uncle Ben.

I almost always sympathise with the villains, then again, I'm a little twisted. When I first saw Sleeping Beauty I got really mad when Maleficent died! And I always feel bad for Donald Duck (although I know he's not always the bad guy).

I've recently been watching the Japanese versions of Sailor Moon, and I've got to say, when Zoicite dies and then later on when Esmeraude dies, I actually got a little sad!

And I for one always wanted to see someone off one of those damn Carebears.

Megatron. Cobra Commander. They were always getting screwed over and looking like complete fools. Looking back on it now I can't understand how these super powerful badass bad guys were always getting their asses kicked and made fools of by all these situations. It's so frustrating. They're evil super villains!

I know what you mean. Like the Misfits from Jem. They weren't really evil, just very competetive and perhaps a bit rough around the edges. Even Eric Raymond wasn't that bad, he was just corrupt.

Seriously, I feel that villians aren't evil, because if you think about it, most of them think they're doing the right thing (like Dukat from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine or Megatron from Transformers for instance) it's just that their beliefs conflict with the good guys, therefore they're considered evil.

"Did I ever tell you how much I like ants huh? Especially fried in a subtle blend of mech fluid and grated gears?"
