Just so you know, it is impossible to get the flu from the flu shot. "The flu vaccine cannot cause influenza because it does not contain any live virus" (http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/iyh-vsv/diseases-maladies/flu-grippe_e.html) There can be side-effects, but definitely not the flu.

Yeah, I started getting it last Thursday, I was completely laid up in bed on Sunday, and I'm pretty much back to normal now, if you ignore the occassional hacking cough while I clear the last of the gunk out of my lungs.

It depends, there are differant kinds of shots. Some use only DNA fragments of the virus, some use dead virus, some use live virus that have been greatly weakened. The kind you get depends on area, and what you are getting vaccinated for.

Actually, the "flu shot" does not use DNA fragments or live virus. The flu shot alone contains dead virus (specifically the A(H3N2), A(H1N1) and B virus). What you're referring to is a different kind of vaccine (such as the "nasal-spray" flu vaccine). They may contain live, weakened versions of the virus. However, this does not cause the flu.

Now I'm only talking about US and Canada, elsewhere I do not know. If you don't believe me, go to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention website, there's a lot of info about it. For Canadians, I'm pretty sure most of us have seen or heard the television and/or radio ads but Health Canada's website has lot of info as well.

I've had the flu 2 or 3 times in my life. The last time was about 5 years ago. I got all of my guy friends sick too. That'll teach 'em to keep their hands off me!

I hardly ever get sick. I got a cold last month, which was the first illness I've had other than hay fever in about 3 years. But I've never had a flu shot. We had a shortage last year and it was pretty bad, and this year might be even worse so I've been considering it.

Oh, and the vaccines do not cause the flu, but your body can develop flu symptoms within 3 weeks of getting the shot while it develops anti-bodies. Happened to a colleague of mine, but he was still well enough to teach. That definitely wouldn't happen if he had the flu.

Hello friends let me tell you one thing that this flu is perhaps one such ailment which each and every people gets time to time. So be it seasonal or due to allergy no one is spared. But the most wrongful deed that people do is to go for medications and that too self prescribed ones. This is something to which we should all refrain.
