ALL electronics were banned from my high school. Even if a student kept an offending device in his/her locker for an entire day, if the dean or principal caught someone using a cell phone or CD player while leaving the building at the end of the day, he/she would face diciplinary action. I almost had my discman confiscated on a few occasions. And, yes, this was a Catholic School.

And, although this was not in a learning institution, Tomogotchis were banned from my summer camp.

      Define "offending."

Offending--adj. 1 causing offense to or resentment in. 2 displeasing. 3 illegal.

I just didn't feel like using the words "banned" or "electronics" more than once in back-to-back sentences. A varied vocabulary makes for a more interesting read.

This is post digging, but they banned big johnson shirts (though some kids still got away with them), coed naked shirts, belly/half shirts, cd's with parental advisory stickers (though everyone got away with bringing them in anyway), and there was a kid who had a steve austin shirt back in 1998 (the Other side Jackass!) shirt, and they made him put tape over the "jackass"!

in middle school when south park came out the shirts with kyle saying "kick ass" were banned. Someone in my gym class wore one and the gym teacher made him turn it inside out. This same gym teacher also sold tshirts at Eminem concerts. Go figure. Yo-yo's were also banned.

Cards were banned in high school bc they promoted gambling.

toys guns and weapons were banned in elementary school. Stuffed animals/footballs/basketballs...etc were allowed but only during recees.

The elementary school I work at now doesnt allow Gameboys unless u go to the afterschool program which is a life saver for us who work there. Give a kid a game boy and they're quiet for hours.

I remember when I was in 4th grade, they cracked down on the boys who had X-Men trading cards, cause the women looked too seductive, plus teachers who didn't know what they were, just saw the letter x in the title. None of us ever thought that, we were all just like....awsome X-Men!. Oh well.

Oh my word! I got the biggest kick out of reading through this thread! I can't believe how much stuff got banned! Totally not cool. I went to school in Germany, and we didn't really haved anything that was banned. We weren't allowed to wear hats during class, and we weren't allowed to have cell phones or tamagotchis switched on during class, but that's all I can really remember.

Our school had a variety of banned things over the course of time. Various clothing, most of which has already been mentioned. Those cat-call whistles that were small platics tubes that some kids choked on. Vicks inhalers. Hot cinnamon flavored toothpicks. I'm sure there was much more.

Remeber those slap on bracelets that had the simpsons or any popular television show on them, well when the stickers peeled of the were razor sharp, you could do some damage so they were outta there.

You know, this will probably earn me instant hatred, but...

It was SCHOOL. You were there to LEARN, not play, not to put on a fashion show. If you wanted to play cards and compare clothes, you should have been doing that after school. Not to mention things like pokemon cards and gameboys have a bad habit of getting stolen, which creates an even bigger interruption with the school, and you can see where I'm going with this.

We went to school to learn, to be taught. Nowhere in the job description does it include "goof off and impress everybody else with your cool new stuff". It happens, but its not actually part of what going to school is about.

                                  i TOTALLY agree with you!

but its still fun to talk about what was banned in school :)

i remember slap braclets being banned (kids were taking the coverings off and slitting their wrists........they say)

pokemon was getting frown apon when i reached high-school (i went to a crazy christian high-school and they banned it because the pokemon were like little demons you could control........eeeeeeevilllllll ooooooo)
