...Like the classic hamburger jail, and ect. Anyone else remember the old playland stuff from the early 80's and 90's?

What happened to it all? It had more of a McDonald's feeling to it back then! Nowadays it's all just tubes and tunnels.

Recently I found a small website dedicated to the old McDonald's playplace equipment. Here's the site:

Yeah, I loved those old playgrounds, especially the hamburger jail thing.

Does anybody know if Burger Kings still have playgrounds? The one near me had a really cool one back in the 80's, but they don't have one anymore, and I can't remember seeing a Burger King with a playground lately. Maybe I'm not paying attention.

I think some still do. I think I've seen a couple while on road trip that have them, but just very few and far between, it's not very common to see BKs have them. The one in the next town from me used to have one as well, and it was removed in around 1999 or so.

I remember the old playland stuff. I also remember alot of that stuff being made of metal rather than plastic like it is now. I used to like the teeter-totter thingy that used to be attached to a big metal spring on the bottom I'd rock back and forth on that thing for a while. Toys and just general fun stuff of the 80s had alot more substance.

The thing I remember most about the McDonalds/Burger King or wherever there was a playground in the 80's, is that the ground was all gravel. You would get done playing and you had 20-30 pebbles in your shoes

Yeah, I remember those metal slides, and sometimes whoever put them together didn't quite do it right, so you'd rip your jeans or scrape your arm on a corner panel going down the slide. Not that it would stop you. It would just make your mom and dad mad later.

What I remember most about those metal slides is how hot they'd get on a summer day.

Yeah, I remember that. When they built the McDonald's in my hometown in the very early 90s, they put in the old-style playground. I used to love the jail one. Of course, the same thing happened to it that happened to every other playground in the 90s-- they changed it to some plastic tube-y...thing. And the metal stuff hadn't even been there that long when they changed it. I always liked the old one better. Plastic playground equipment just isn't the same.

I loved the McDonald's ball pit.
Some crappy kids used to bury their fries & hamburgers in the balls, so you'd be jumping around in there and all of a sudden you'd find 3 hamburgers smashed under your feet.

Oh, my McDonald's had a different "jail". Let's see...nope, can't find a picture of it. It was called "Paddy Wagon" and it had this big "jail" thing at the top with a slide coming out of it.

I remember I was at McDonalds as a kid, and I was in the jail, and some kid crawled out the big space in the bars, where that girl in the middle is in marioluigi's picture, and climbed up on top of the burger and was sitting on the hat. The manager ran out there and made the kid go inside with his parents and basically banned him from the playground for the rest of the day.

Yes! I have pics of me back in fall of around '82, playing on the stuff. There was only one McDonalds that I was aware of in my area with the playground and I called it "the Mc Donalds with the toys" and I remember burning my legs good on the slides, and the Grimace cage thingy, and the jail...oh what fun. It was such a sad day to see it torn down, they remodeled it all and now you can't even tell there was a playground there.

And I think the new play junk they have now is SO unsanitary. I mean think about it- outdoors and hot metal- kills bacteria. Cold weather, kills the germs. Ball pit, plastic stuff...BREEDING GROUND, poopy diapers, FOUND in the ball pit. (Of course I have to eat my words because I LOVED the ball pit and plastic crap at ShowBizz and Circus.

Back in '81 an F3 tornado came through that area and did damage to the mall across the street-I never heard about any damage sustained to the Mc Donalds with the toys though.
