In the UK it (the Cartoons and comics) was originally retitled Teenage Mutant 'Hero' Turtles. Apparetnly Ninja was a violent word and would corrupt youths, even though we already had a dozen video games with the word Ninja in, each twice as violent as the TMHT cartoon. You can hear on retrojunk that there are even two theme songs.
By the time the movie came out, the authorities had relaxed enough to allow it to go under the TMNT moniker. This said, they still took out EVERY reference to swinging nunchukas, due to a spate of copycat playground incidents with skipping ropes.
Of course now, what with twelve year old alcoholics, Happy Slappers and joy riders that can't see over the steering wheel, the re branded and re drawn cartoon happily goes under the TMNT name. AND when the film was shown recently, the nunchukas were back....
