Anyone remember the "Astronaut" snacks, the freeze dried stuff you could get in places like museums and science exhibits? I used to get the strawberries(which drove my parents nuts because the red would get everywhere), and the ice cream. I think they had pizza, which was gross, and a couple of other things. Does anyone know if they're still made and where I might be able to order some?

O, the ice cream!! That was the best! yum! I have a freeze dryer at work and often think about making my own..
I have a pack of "french fries" I keep for fun on a shelf in my kitchen..but I bet they would taste horrible.

My short commentary on those astronaut snacks:

The strawberries were pretty good, I never liked the texture of the ice cream, and the pizza was hideous.

If I had to eat that crap every time I went into space, I wouldn't want to be an astronaut. Of course that's not all what they ate. I remember seeing a film of astronauts playing with M&M's and Jello in zero gravity. Funny stuff if you've never seen it.

I saw that Space Food stuff at a museum once, but I never bought any. I have had MRE food though, and that stuff was awful.

I had the ice cream. I have seen the pizza before

Last summer I worked for a company called Mad Science which does science themed summer day camps. One of the snacks for the NASA themed week was "astronaut food" which was instant pudding in Ziplocks you had to add water to and squish around. It was pretty lame.

I bought some at Hobby Lobby a few months ago. The freeze dried icecream sandwich is the best!

They probably turn up at Big Lots with other oddities like the all important Rap Snacks.

I brought the ice cream sandwich kind and that was good. I also brought some of the chips they were okay though.

Sasha Grey lives off of astronaut food.

If you think MRE's are bad you should try C-RATIONS, those were worse
