The problem with tv is that its sold itself out in the same way the music industry has. The music industry only appeals to teeny boppers because they're too stupid to know how to download music illegally or too chickensht, AND mommy and daddy provide everything for them so they have an unlimited amount of cash. They also have horrible music taste because they're not mature enough to appreciate good music yet. (It's just the size of their brain, I'm not trying to be a jerk.)
They only appeal to the lowest common denominator and this is NOT an opinion, it's fact. At Nickelodeon studios they have an audience sit in on their NIck Jr shows. If one kid in the audience doesn't understand something, even if it's obvious and right in front of their face, they go back and fix it so it does. It's cheaper and time efficient to make computer animated films/tv series, which cuts down on quality. You don't have to work hard to make a computerized character in the same way you had to sit at a desk for minutes or hours just to create one scene.
The tv industry now makes the same of everything, cop/drama or medical/drama shows as well as reality shows. That's literally ALL we see on every channel. Just pick any channel and I guarantee you'll see a reality show there, even the Discovery Science channel has them now..
Appealing to dumbass rednecks (this decade is all about dumb sht rednecks for some odd reason, why? Because republicans owned this decade and of course they must keep their fanbase distracted from the fact that they're not doing anything but advancing their own agendas.)-Ax Men, conspiracy theories on the History/Science/Discovery Channel and National Geographic. That's ALL they play are stupid made up documentaries (based on no evidence) about UFOS or other inane unprovable c0ck and bull conspiracy theories. I'm watching the history channel to learn about PROVABLE history, not something some guy thinks may have happened loosely based on a vague amount of evidence. I want to learn REAL science....but that's too boring for its viewers isn't it?? So they have to compromise themselves and change to appeal to everyday lazy schmucks.
The reason the science channel exists is for a specific demographic who want to learn about science. It's not for some sht kicker in Kansas who doesn't really want to learn about science, but feel like he does.
Tv appeals to the lowest common denominator because that's all they can get at the moment. It's the only thing that makes them money during a time where pretty much everything you want, tv shows, music, films, etc..is right there at the click of a mouse. It think once this time passes, we'll see the internet regulated just like the real world is.
Btw-let me just say the tv industry has always taken one day and beat it to death. Sitcoms and live action shows in the 90s, cop shows in the 80s, cartoons in the 80s and 90s (for the growing amount of kids due to the baby boomers having kids) You had westerns and space shows in the 50s and 60s.
You've also always had shows that appeal to the lowest common denominator such as Full House, a vomit inducing show about an unnaturally perfect family. You've had the good and the bad in every decade, but you know what this decade does NOT have? It doesn't have the good, there is nothing good that really came out of this decade that was truly an original idea.
You guys can bring up as many examples as you want to, but I literally haven't seen a good show since 2001/2. I stopped watching tv in the early 00s and switched to movies. I haven't watched a tv show, that wasn't a rerun, since I was a child. You can't convince me that there's nothing wrong with television today. Otherwise why would so many people be making this claim? They're not just making it here, they're making it everywhere. When I watch tv with my mother I always hear her state, "There's nothing on" and she's always right!
