Do you automatically go see a film purely because the director is a name you like?

I mean, even Spielberg has dropped clangers in the past.

Yeah, Tim Burton can have his moments of genius....so does Quentin Tarantino. Both have had some really bad movies, however, so....can't really place them at the top of the list.

Oliver Stone's up there....as is Sophia Coppola and her dad, Martin Scorsese, David Lynch, Mel Gibson, and Michael Gondry, to name a few. Can't pick a favorite, though.

Even though it's cliche, I'm gonna have to go with Steven Spielberg. Most of my favorite movies were directed by him.

Tim Burton is one of the most overrated directors of all time. Sure he has good movies, but he has an equal amount of movies that are just terrible.

                Good directors: Speilberg
                Martin Scorsese
                Coen Brothers
                Stanley Kubrick
                David Fincher
                Mel Gibson
                Francis Ford Coppola
                Peter Jackson
                Quentin Tarantino
                Robert Robriquez
                David Lynch
                Chris Nolan
                Terry Gilliam

                    Stanley Kubrik

He was the best. Still is. He'd be the best if the only thing he ever directed was 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I will go see anything, regardless of critical acclaim, if it has...

                      George A. Romero
                      David Fincher
                      Stephen King
                      Tim Burton
                      or
                      Don Bluth's

                      names on it.

If I had to pick one, I'd say Spielberg. He may not be quite as good as he used to be, but even when he's not great, he's better than 90% of the other directors out there.

Frank Henenlotter is the man. Brain Damage made me want to do drugs again.

I wish he would direct another film. I miss that fucker.

Goddamn. I haven't see Brain Damage in over 15 years. I only remember bits and pieces. From what I do remember it was messed up. Henelotter did the Basket Case films too, right?

Ralph Bakshi, I would automatically see a film of his if he made another. And John Waters, I would love to see a new movie from him.

Richard Linklater directed some great films as well.
