I'm not entirely convinced it's a good idea.
OK, sure, some are OK, but, like I say, I'm not always convinced.
Let me give some examples:
1) Dawn Of The Dead. The original was an epic, claustrophobic film that gave the viewer something to get his teeth into. It sent a message that Romero felt needed addressing (if you don't know what that message was, you're not a fan). The remake had running zombies. RUNNING ZOMBIES! Zombies don't run, they lurch. It's the oppressive nature in the way that they congregate and swamp you in their number that is the terrifying thing about them.
2) Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. No, no, no, no. Wrong. All wrong. The original was perfect. The new one was sinister and had a malevolance to it that destroyed the essence of the story. No. Wrong.
3) Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Don't even start me on that one.
4) The Italian Job. Do I really need to say anything about this complete fuck-up of a film?
5) Planet Of The Apes. A heinous blasphemy. How *DARE* they fuck with this cinematic legend?
Apart from Scarface, which, as we should all know, was a remake, I can't think of any good remake.
