Autobot- I know who Owen is though  He was still a teenager really the last year I payed attention to "footey". I'm sure you'll find it a travesty but I was big Germany national team fan. Klinsmann was my hero. It was around that time that my obsession with American Football took off.

So the fact that World Cup 2006 is in Germany and they will be REALLY gunning for it might interest you?

I remember playing Fifa '98 and teaming Shearer up with Klinnsman at Newcastle....

        Ah, fantasy.

How did I miss him...? The amount of teen time I spent with novels, short story compilations, SK based films... Actually I should put Clive Barker in as well.

I owned FIFA '99, and played with Newcastle. Hamann was a really good midfielder on there, and I always used to start him when I played with the Germans. Good times. Actually now that you mention it, the World Cups are the only events I follow anymore. We of course hope the best for our US team, but 90% of us probably couldn't name a player. The women's team are actually more famous here. I played for 13 years myself.

We sold Hamann at a bad time. Him and Speed were a good duo. He's in the history books as being the last player to score at Wembly in an international (or is that in all games?) before it was demolished.

                The US team?

Keller, Reyna, McBride, Donovan, Spector, Bocanegra, Stewart, Kirovski are names I can recall, probably more from playing Pro Evo than reality, although a few of them are premiership names.

Reyna is probably the best of the bunch.

Stan Lee, the creator of so many classic and ingenious characters from SpiderMan to the F4 to XMen and the Hulk (and many, many more). I consider him to be the master of modern day mythology and has well deserved his stance as one of the most powerful people in Hollywood today.

All bitchin' dudes, but isn't idolizing them contradictory to your beliefs? I'm assuming too much about your beliefs, maybe... but idolatry should never be confused for sincere respect for talent or personality.

Perhaps our interpretation of idolatry differ. I don't look at these men as anything but human, but there is a little something about each one of them that I would like to see more of in myself. There is a list that is twice or three times as long consisting of people that aren't famous and that no one here would know or might not care about (my dad, my senseis, etc.) Maybe I should have used the term mentor rather than idol.

Yeah, "mentor" conveys a bit more self-respect.

To me "idols" means successful or famous people you look up to and admire and who you wouldn't mind being just like, and that's what I meant when I stared this thread, "Who are the people you look up to and admire" Its just that "who are your Idols" sums it up in fewer words and sounds catchier. I didn't intend for people to tell me about golden statues of Buddha, Bhaal, or Dagon that they worship, just their admirees.

I knew what you meant, Matt....it's just that a major part of punk philosophy is remaining an individual and veering from trying to emulate others, especially if they're rich or famous.
